How do you make the loops with the MT120? Do you block the erase head or record stuff and cut/splice? (I just gone one!)
@blackcookiesАй бұрын
Yes, I do block the erase head.

Hola, puedes aclarar ¿de dónde proceden los sonidos? de guitarra ? sintetizador? ¿Graba primero en DAW y después a cinta de cassette? Un saludo
@blackcookies17 күн бұрын
It depends. Sometimes to DAW but usually sequences on external instruments and then recording to cassette. I like also improvising directly to tape and then pitch it and perform on top of it with external effects.

How did you get those multitracks?
@blackcookies4 ай бұрын
I used to hunt for these on local eBay. In average I paid ~ 60 Euro. One required belt replacement. Search for multi track. Tascams are overpriced, check Yamaha or Fostex.

sick like real ambient. i still dont quite understand how it works tho, is it 40 second, 4 track loop continually overdubbing thru the fx ?
@jerzymizgiert5566 ай бұрын
4 x 40sec. loops on the cassette, overdubbing and playing with faders. knobs etc.

55 years ago my tech roomates and I would set two Sony 4-track stereo R2R decks side by side and pass the tape from the left machine's supply reel to the right machine's pickup reel, over both sets of record heads and both sets of capstand and pinch rollers. We'd use a mic to record a tone or a brief voice clip on the tape with the first machine; the second machine would play it back. We'd capture that playback with the first machine's mic and record it; that sound would play back on the second machine. We'd let the tape run like this for maybe ten minutes. With each repitition the sound would decay a little bit. After maybe 200 repetitions, the sound was, shall we say, unique - plus deep in a reverb/echo. This is a bit hard on the tape decks, but if you align them properly you can pull it off with no damage. Try it!

It's amazing to me how all the f**ked up sonic crap we spent decades eradicating is coming back. If you like this vibe there are about a dozen Popol Vuh albums you should check out. You want tape hiss? Those albums perfected the art in the seventies.

how can I translate my pattern from cycles to my computer?

Hey, I think you can simple connect with MIDI to your computer, for example in Ableton Live setup midi track with either All Midi Inputs or select particular one and hit Record.

Amazing, soothing sounds man, really nice. Can I ask if you just recorded a certain amount of piano time onto the reel-to-reel as a loop (or not as a loop) from the multitrack, before using another loop as the drone? I'm getting a reel to reel this week and I have a multitrack to use too.

amazing enrapturing lo-fi AV piece of genius. Trance-like and beautiful, the audio harmonic distortion and video pixelation is yummy. A classic buried with all the other classics by the utter millions of pieces of dreck on KZbin. A piece of really valid original work, thank you.
