Am glad to report that they have slowed the tempo(s) down significantly as of 30th October. This must have been early hijinks

Wonder if Madame Giry comes and gives the cue? Is it new???

There was a video of this particular scene that posted here as well, in which the lasso broke shortly after Erik put it on Raoul, resulting in the latter sing while lying on the floor.

It's brilliant how they covered the incident. I remember a story from the original Toronto production where one of the Angel's supporting rods broke while descended, and Colm Wilkinson as the Phantom was stuck with no way to get down.

Saw it for the first time with my partner, they have seen it so many times, I grew up on the 2004 movie and watching YT stage recordings! To see it finally with my favourite person was utterly spellbinding! 🖤🌹

Why does it spark? Isn’t the point of the auction scene to tell us that the ‘electric light’ was new, and that the workshops had just wired it?
@bookishmaria_20 күн бұрын
that’s when phantom gets angry at christine not during the auction
@TheCoastermann19 күн бұрын
@@bookishmaria_ You’re not quite understanding. Think about it. The auction scene is set long after Christine has died, ‘Some of you may recall the strange affair of the Phantom of the Opera,’ and then as the chandelier rises, we go back in time during the overture. So if the electric light is ‘new’ as it is said to be in the auction scene, how can we then see it spark when we wind the clock back? It would have been gas powered. It wouldn’t have sparked. Incidentally; it never sparked during the crash before, until the production was replaced with the touring production.
@Tochi6811 күн бұрын
It sparks in the same way these characters just burst into songs. It's theater In all seriousness, I doubt safety guidelines would just allow these set piece chandeliers to just spout out flames above an audience.
@joaonasc14957 күн бұрын
@@TheCoastermannwell, we can think that the Phantom is a theatrical illusionist and he put the special effect to create more drama. It's something I imagine him doing 😅

Is it just the new cameras or does the show look a lot brighter than how it was?
@cluelessandcurious5277Ай бұрын
The cameras are better at capturing how it really looks (although it’s still not 100% accurate, Broadway shows are so very beautiful in person). I’ve been many of broadway shows and they’re always very bright and beautiful.
@pablocapuchino7839Ай бұрын
Everything is indeed much brighter. Result of the 2021 changes, I´m afraid. And awfully fast tempo! I also miss the shiny black floor.
@cluelessandcurious5277Ай бұрын
@@pablocapuchino7839 I believe you’re wrong. Broadway shows have always been bright. And the floor has scratches on if from people dancing on it 6+ times a week since 1988.
@pablocapuchino7839Ай бұрын
@@cluelessandcurious5277 I believe it is you who are wrong. I work in the industry and can assure you it’s not the case. What Hal Prince wanted for Phantom was a dark black box with drapes. The lighting for the original POTO production is quite dark. The current production of Les Mis (London, US tour, Japan…) is also incredibly dark. Much darker than Phantom.
@pablocapuchino7839Ай бұрын
@@cluelessandcurious5277 and no. The floor was replaced in 2021. It used to be a shiny black floor. Now it’s much more matte.

Good thing the Phantom has a magnetised portcullis as a backup to the Punjab Lasso! Seriously though, this was sooooo hard to watch! That five minutes must have seemed like an ETERNITY for everyone involved! (No scene transitions, no other way/s of making the scene "work", etc).
@NuttyIrishwoman94Ай бұрын
Jon is clearly talented and has a good singing voice. But he doesn't show the emotions the Phantom is supposed to be going through. The Phantom is supposed to be angry and jealous here. I don't get that from his performance

Interesting how The Phantom drops thru a trap door on the stage after snatching Christine’s necklace. On Broadway it was merely smoke and distraction by the other actors as he disappeared stage right.
@JamesOttman2 ай бұрын
He drops into the trapdoor on bway as well. I assume the trapdoor was broken when you saw it. It happens a lot.
@fitizfun2 ай бұрын
@@JamesOttman After I posted this I read elsewhere that they quit using the trapdoor on BWay due to frequent problems with it and one Phantom was injured. Not sure of the accuracy of that. We saw it in Feb last year before it closed on Bway. When I saw it in 2000 for the first time I can’t recall how he disappeared.

@@AmintaDaxbut do you know why it’s rushed? The virus had nothing to do with the length of the show and it’s upsetting me. They changed so much! Also why does the title song begin with a loud straight chord. It used to be very subtle and staccato with Michael Crawford and Sarah brightman! 😢
