Watch out with the Adcom amps. They have no protection circuitry. Dust caps can usually be cut out and replaced if they are crushed in, just make sure you've found the right sized replacements first. I believe that rubber gasket around the tweeters protective mesh was missing from one of your JBLs. This is probably used to cut down resonance. Great vintage JBLs! I run a pair of more modern JBLs on my system too. Hang on to these. Don't make 'em like they used to.

Hello. Hook up to what?
@jellojamcwg9 ай бұрын
@@RUGBYmusic hi Rugby thanks for the response. So I have tried to plug it directly into a guitar amp with just a normal instrument cable. And I’ve tried to plug an xlr cable with a balanced instrument input into a guitar amp and that didn’t work. My next best guess is to plug two xlr cables into a mixer and into an amp. Do you think it’s broken or do you think the mixer idea will work? Thank you for your time!
@RUGBYmusic9 ай бұрын
@@jellojamcwg If it didn’t work on the guitar amp it probably won’t work on the mixer either. I would still give it a try though. The electronics on mine didn’t work either. I actually ended up bypassing them and connecting the pickup cable directly to the 1/4” output kinda like how a guitar works. They are pretty old so it’s no surprise you are having a electronics problems. I would see if there is a local tech who could take look at it if the mixer does not work.

How do you reproduce the videos continuously. I’m using vlc on an old iPad but I always see a black transition between each video
@RUGBYmusic Жыл бұрын
Hello! Its been a long time since i’ve messed with vlc for this purpose. Is the black between videos in the videos themselves or is it actually vlc player? If it’s in the videos you may need to edit out the black part in video editing software

Due to the particular shape of my apartment living room, the left and right bass woofers were cancelling out. So I had to reverse the polarity on the left hand speaker woofer. This push-pull effect made a huge difference. Not only did they no longer cancel out, but you can be anywhere in the room and the bass is just as powerful. I built these speakers back in 1978. The each have one 12" woofer, two mid-range drivers, and 4 tweeters. They are 45 years old, but working as good as new.

Nice. Making it work!

@@RUGBYmusic Thanks. I don't have front speaker covers, other than a 15" black metal mesh cover over each woofer (Outer rim of woofers is 15" diameter.). So the exposed black front panel had unevenly faded somewhat over the many years, but I finally got my hands on some black wood stain and re-stained each of the front panels. Boy I am glad I did that. What a difference.

Prince used a cp80 for purple rain and 1999 and controversy tours I believe. And even after that to some extent. Had his draped in purple velvet for a while. At some point he started using kawais live though. I could be wrong but he always gravitated back towards Yamaha. Even his synths were dx7 until he swapped to Roland d50s for lovesexy then went back to yamahas later.

Hey there do you have IG? I recently got a CP70 and wanted to ask you questions about the lower notes and it’s tuning
@RUGBYmusic Жыл бұрын
I do but I never use it. Tuning is the same as a real piano. Watch some videos on piano tuning! Warning: piano tuning is very complicated if you want it to be equal temperament. Hiring a piano tuner is always an option!
@synthdude7664 Жыл бұрын
@@RUGBYmusic agreed ! I actually hired someone to tune it for me, but I’ve noticed after having it tuned 3 times that no matter what the lowest octave is out of tune, and was wondering if you could tell me more information about when you restrung yours, how much that affected your lowest end strings tuning ?
@RUGBYmusic Жыл бұрын
@@synthdude7664 Gotcha. I never restrung mine. Original strings. The low notes never sounded very nice on mine considering the single string per note down there sorry wish I could be more of a help perhaps try a different piano tuner? Or your could get a piano key and mess with those low ones till you like it.

Just seeing this Chris. I own a bunch of Slingerland snare drums from 1940's to 1980's. The 2 things I found helpful in new head seating is after tensioning, press down around the lug points on the drumhead as to stretch it. Also I would punch the middle then retune. Sounds a little extreme but it works. As far as snare buzz, detune the lug rods at the snare wire beds. Just enough to rid the buzz. The Slingerlands have a unique dry fat sound that no one else has. Nice drum you got there.

when i first heard about the rhodes when i was a kid, as an "electric piano", i thought it was exactly this. then i found out about tines and reeds, and about stringed clavs, and didn't think about it anymore. i can't believe it took me this long to finally research this "missing link" kind of instrument, and it turns out that first, i had already heard it all over the place without paying attention, and second, it sounds better to my ears than a rhodes or a wurli. nice.

I wish these things weren't prohibitively expensive and unwieldy, because it's such a unique sound that certain VSTs haven't really been able to capture.
