Some dude in a robe and sandals in the desert thousands of years ago just wrote stuff down in a book and people today still believe all this nonsense. How much money do I gotta pay to join the church? I thought “Jesus” helped people with bread and wine, why they pass a basket around for innocent old ladies to threw their money into then the priest drives off in a Mercedes.

I did the Camino de Santiago, the Frances trail, during a jubilee year and walked through the holy door. THAT is worth the jubilee. The rest of these are unearned.

Great stuff! Make sure to look out for the fresco fragment by Giotto that shows Pope Boniface declaring the first Jubilee in 1300. It’s incredible to think that the painter who made the artistic Renaissance possible was right there, documenting the event that we’re still celebrating today!

A church that is totally worthwhile to visit. Especially interesting is how the main aisle was done by Borromini and the transept was decorated by a completely different artist 50 years earlier and it looks completely different.

Great video! Don’t forget to take a good look at the barnstorming frescoes in the apse too by Antoniazzo Romano portraying the legend of the true cross - right up there with the most underrated Renaissance paintings in Rome!
