If your buying from goodwill don't bid on line before you check shipping cost. I buy guitars all the time for 15 but shipping can be 40 or more. They also have a handling fee usually 5 dollars
@JayceAllanGuitar9 сағат бұрын
Sometimes. I always use the estimate shipping feature and if it's over $25 or $30 I will pass. Sometimes you can get shipping for around $15.

I saw KDH cover this soapbox nonsense. Surely a man selling guitars for 4K has no ulterior motives for thumping this old drum! I have Basswood Squiers that are probably in 6 different pieces under the finish and they sound great. Give me a great neck and decent pickups and i'll make it work.

The bench time makes all the difference. Could the G ever be properly intonated? The thing I hate about Fender marketing these as "beginner guitars" is that, with any instrument ear training is a big part of what's going on from day one and a lot of players are going to get these out of the box, without setup, without intonation and they are going to be training their ears on a poor quality instrument... Is that really "better than nothing". I actually don't think that it is... I feel this way strongly about acoustic guitars too, take a $300 poor quality acoustic, it doesn't deliver much of what a real acoustic guitar does for the player, these are imitations of real instruments being sold at the lowest cost possible in the name of expanding options to new comers, new comers should save their money.
@JayceAllanGuitarКүн бұрын
I agree with you on acoustics. I started out on a horrible acoustic, but my parents couldn't afford anything else. So I took what I got. As for electrics, my first electric was pretty decent but I adjusted the action on it immediately. This was back before the internet. So I just figured it out. I think if you're totally broke and want a guitar, get something halfway decent and learn to make the proper adjustments. Also, I haven't come across a sub $300 guitar yet that wasn't playable. I think people that play guitar should know basic setup. The lead singer of our band plays rhythm guitar for us also, he's actually a very good guitar player, but knows next to nothing about guitars. I just can't wrap my head around that.

For $120 the question isn't if it comes out of the box properly setup and intonated, but does the inexpensive hardware that it comes with enable it to be intonated
@JayceAllanGuitarКүн бұрын
Valid question, but in the case of the Squier, I was able to intonate it. But I did end up upgrading this guitar and did a separate video on that. I will say the neck on the Debut is excellent. I might build a new body for it.

Hi Jayce, Sounds like you have had some good deals, knowing your stuff certainly helps, but as you said you lost out a few times. Here in Australia, things are way more expensive, than in the USA, and if Aussies buy from the USA, the shipping is horrendous, which unless it's something that cannot be bought anywhere else at the price you have found, then buying from the USA isn't viable for us. The acoustic that you demoed at $150, looked and sounded pretty good, ideal for a spare guitar or a beginner's first guitar. Regards,

When I started playing I had a silvertone Strat and a Mitchell acoustic, when I got my first squire tele that was my first real quality guitar years later I still have those, do they compare to my American fender, no, but there’s a humbling feeling when you go back to your roots as a player.

Very interesting discussion about expensive vs. inexpensive guitars. I own several Fenders and Gibsons but I also own quite a few inexpensive guitars which I have modified and I don't really see much difference although I do try to modify the inexpensive guitars up to the standards of my Deluxe Fender Strat with the exception of not having the S1 switching. An area that you might consider that I have gotten into recently is the world of cigarbox guitars( I find that they take up less space than my strats).

I’ve been playing for around 50 years and stopped gigging about 20 years ago. I’ve owned $2,500 guitars and $100 guitars. I got a Donner Strat copy a few years ago from Amazon for $150. It is one of the absolute best “cheap” guitar that I’ve ever played. I did set it up for me (lowered the action and tweaked the intonation) and changed to cheap locking machines (also from Amazon). That being said, any cheap guitar is going to have issues. I also got a Firefly ES335 copy that is basically firewood. The issue that I’ve seen from these “cheap” guitars is usually in the electronics. Crappy pots & pickups that function better as a microphone have been MY experience. And I doubt that ANY hobby woodworker has a CNC machine in the shed! LMAO I’d love to hear your opinion on the Donner guitars.
@JayceAllanGuitar2 күн бұрын
@@drewstinnett5375 I’ve owned a few Donner guitars. They were always great guitars. I agree microphonic pickups are usually what you get with super cheap guitars. Also, I’m a total amateur woodworker and I do have a CNC machine. They are pretty affordable these days. My Firefly ES335 was actually really good. It can be a crap shoot for sure. Thanks for tuning in.

Thank you for your reviews on this guitars. I'm one of those Squier guitar starter guys who's dream was supposedly ruined by playing my toy guitar. To the idiot got who commented to your video without knowing that most beginner's don't usually have such a huge bigger, the other $100 is for the combo amp. I as many beginner's at the time only had around $200, and the best thing for me to have was the Squier affinity starter set, it was for $169.99, it included a combo amp, a cable, lesson DVD, lesson book, gig bag, strap, two sets of strings, 6 guitar picks, a basic input jack tuner, and all for $169.99, the other guitar's at guitar center, they were all on sell and still cost more then that affinity starter set. I'm still playing guitar today, and a jaguar fanatic, I use to own two Gibson guitar, a 89 SG, a modern Les Paul Jr. I had a fender Strat, a Fender Tele, Jackson JX, Epiphone Les and SG, but ended up loving the Jag, over all, if I had more money, I would still start with the Squier.

Very engaging video, I own quite a few Squier guitars and they are one of my favorite modification platforms. I have noticed some differences in the quality control between Squiers made in China and Indonesia as far as the fretwork and quality of the tuners. There are some differences in the different lines such as the Affinity line and the Sonic line which replaced the Bullet line although I have a couple of Bullet strats which I have not modified because they are fine the way that they are. The beauty of inexpensive guitars is that you can upgrade them to your own specifications. It is interesting what you mentioned about Yamaha acoustics because I own several Taylors and Martins but my favorite acoustic is a Yamaha APXT2. I do like the balance that you gave to comparing the two guitars. Definitely a subscribe and a like.

There is a noticeable difference. The question is whether it is worth 500 dollars. If you know how to set it up, it can be worth it. If you are a newbie and want something that plays OK out of the box, get the Pacifica. My first electric was a Pacifica 112J which now has locking tuners and a 2 pt. trem. I still enjoy dusting it off once in a while. I am lucky in that I live in a place where having a guitar setup including nut adjustment and fret leveling by a skilled luthier costs less than 50 USD.
