Wait the lyrics to this is actually pretty sad-- it portrays the story of the event so well 😭

0:12: Imagine the shock of suddenly hearing such Western showtunes in an already interesting anime like Revue Starlight. 0:34: Quite melodious. 0:54: Good music like this makes one think it got transplanted from, hmm, Singin' in the Rain, maybe. 1:21: Love how Mahiru, as "Karen" seems to be grasping the hand of "herself". 2:03: "Zenbu *z~e~n~b~u."* Little did we know, such a chilling delivery would foreshadow the later "MEDAL SUZDAL PANIC". 2:26: Sounds like someone got outed bad. 2:36: Sounds like Nana Daiba, not wanting change. If there's two things the fictional Mahiru Tsuyuzaki and her voice/stage actress Haruki Iwata have in common, it's that they're baton twirling champions and noted baseball players. 4:20: And so the fear, surprise, and intimidation has left Karen-chan. 5:17: Hence the later non non given by Karen. 5:27: Showy, but effective, that mace stunt. 6:11: Reminds me of "A Song, or the Blooming of Flowers", the singers' returning unity.

On its own, the song's real good, but I have to admit, reading the seventh Overture manga chapter and watching the first out of three short OVAs of the TV series (0:55 was sung by Mahiru, while 1:11 was sung by Futaba there) makes it way more meaningful and profound.

I knew the fascinating Stage Girl duo that is Futaba and Kaoruko won't be a dull one, but dang, I didn't expect their Revues to be among my favorites in the anime saga. 0:18: That guitar riff sure fits Futaba well. 0:34: Surprised by this transition, but not unexpected, it was. 1:03: OK, that music transition was unexpected. Also, aren't all the Auditions since the beginning quite personal, Giraffe? 2:29: There's just something about this part of the song (it's where Claudine is seen battling Junna in Ep. 6 of the anime) that just paces itself quite well. To think Kaoruko's ruse is actually nicer and sincere in the anime, while it was quite coldhearted in the stage play and its manga adaptation. Thise lyrics about a "caged" bird" and "farewell for a journey" sure become more meaningful after checking out The Movie's Revue of Resentment. 3:27: "Okini (Thanks), Futaba!" This moment gets me. 3:41: And so the song has reached the part with the red curtain, the beautiful sakura tree backdrop, and the final charge. 4:08: Cue the climax! 4:15: Cue a scene not unlike a certain one featuring Master Shifu and Tai Lung from the first Kung Fu Panda. 4:19: Truly, quite a dazzling strike from Kaoruko. "Watch me", Kaoruko said in the end. Shame later eventd prevented her in rising up to the occasion, which led to the curious song known as "Selfish Highway".

To this day, I suspect this song to have been in-universe inspired by that interesting ghost sighting in the eighth chapter of the Overture manga. Yes, really. Anyways, though Maya (voiced by Maho Tomita) and Hikari (Suzuko "Mimorin" Mimori) ruled the song, Junna (Hinata Sato) and Nana (Moeka Koizumi) sure left a subtle mark that enhances the song's ethereality... is that an actual word?

Siempre me ha gustado lo troll que es Kaoruko, me encanta su personalidad caóticamente neutral/villana. Su rivalidad con Tamao también me gusta mucho, se respectan, pero al mismo tiempo se detestan xD, totalmente un par de frenemies.
