Even better fix is to do away with the bung on the end, they are a terrible design, add a short length of garden hose secured with a cable tie, it works perfectly well & doesnt gunk up as its open ended.

You didn’t cut the nipple off to keep it from clogging again?

If you cut the end bit off its too short, just extend it with a short length of garden hose & cable tie it, works much better.

Hi, thanks for posting this. Can you help me ? I have removed the side panel and the drainage tube has become separated and I cannot seem to get the two to join. It is a very restrictive area to work in can you give me any guidance. Thanks Jim

I have since discarded the rubber grommet, found rubber tubing that fits through exit hole of the car and that downpipe from the sunroof fits into. works perfect.

I had this on the passenger side and used a smaller pipe to poke down and clear the blockage, I now apply a flush of Jeyes Fluid twice a year to stop the furring up!

yeah, like others are saying. You had it out. You ought to have cut it straight across. You'll invariably wind up with a repeat issue and now, with the silicon seal, you'll have to cut it off, compromising length and then what will you do?

It took 12yrs to block think the the car will be dead & buried and the scrap metal used to make air fryers by the time it happens again. PS,,, I did cut the end off,

Beautiful car. I love that shade of blue. I guess your experience has shown that having two fans blowing from opposite sides of the radiator isn’t a problem??
@lukepapa4
@lukepapa4 Жыл бұрын
Thank you. No there's no problem the fan on the engine is drawing air through and the fan on the rad is pushing air through so the air flow is all in the same direction.
@johnbagnall7133
@johnbagnall7133 Жыл бұрын
The front one blows air and the rear one sucks air. What would be the point of the original fan trying to push air out the front of the car????? You must have zero understanding of aerodynamics and I strongly suggest removing the ridiculous third sentence that is simply embarrassing.

Hi Luke papa Very nice car 👍😊 I'm a newish owner of an 1969 mgb... so far I'm enjoying it immensely. Ive also fitted a Revotec electric cooling fan to the mgb as this year was extraordinarily warm and the poor car got rather hot . I notice you have the original engine fan still in place so i'm guessing your Revotec fan is a pull fan?. Mine is a push fan and was recommended to remove the origional engine fan as they would be pushing air against each other. So far i'm very happy with the electric fan's performance. Ps are you planning any more mgb videos?

Gorgeous MG you have! I'm on my third and my parents had a new one in 67. Even though the temp goes up in traffic I don't believe they'll actually boil over. John Twist does a nice video on this about MGAs. I think hotter temperatures get rid of the contaminants from the oil.

The 2017 Tiguan R Line has been a disaster since I bought it. Corroding brake discs, leaking sun roof, corroding diamond cut wheels, engine sensor failures. A Friday car at its worst. Back to Audi next. I had an A4 S line for 8 years and it never missed a beat over 120,000 miles. Dealer serviced and the only thing that needed sorting was tyres and brake discs. I know its all part of the same group but the build quality of the Audi was much better and so was the dealership workmanship standards.

Pro tip, don't bother cleaning that rubber gasket, just cut the part from the end of it. This way it will never get clogged again and will also provide with better drain flow for when it rains strong and for days... Also, put some pressured air ( spray ) in the drain holes on top of the sunroof, and ask a buddy to feel with his hands at the other end ( under the windshield whippers ) if the injected air is getting out at good pressure. That means the entire drain circuit is cleaned and ready to go ! Works on all VW models with regular sunroof or panoramic. This is not something very hard to do and should be considered an every 3 year job in order to keep it safe and clean.

I have a 2016 mk2 Tiguan with the same leak issue. Unfortunately you can’t access the drain tube on these in the same way. There’s basically no access due to the metal brackets in the area. If you lift the bonnet /hood, and ease up the scuttle trim, you can see the end of the drain, but without removing the wiper arm and then the scuttle cover, you can’t reach it. My alternative solution was to insert some thin tubing into the drain aperture in the sunroof. I then used a large syringe to push some cleaning fluid into the tube followed by some water to rinse it through.. once I saw it was running through, I attached an air line and blew it through. Probably not got it as clean as removing and cleaning as the OP did, but does seem to have resolved the problem. Hope this is of some help to mk 2 owners

Its appalling that VWs whether Golf, Touran, Jetta, Passat, Toureg, all sufder from leaks, predominantly from sunroofs. Its a crime, that they have taken shortcuts and design such flimsy systems in recent years that are causing such pain and angst amounst owners who, primarily brought these cars because of the reliability and trust afforded to German car manufacturers. This trust is being destroyed, and I can see the onset of decline in the German car industry. Its shocking the way they are treating their customers despite knowing that there is a flaw in the design. VW should recall and fix for free!!!!!

Yeah for what you pay for the vehicles they should replace the freaking carpet and either replace those little valve things or anytime you need them give them to you free because this is an ongoing thing it's never resolved

Was it easy to remove and reinstall that rubber grommet that needed the cleaning? I’m about to do that this weekend. Also what kind of sealant did you use to finish the job? What if it happens again in the future? Would it be better not to use sealant?
