I'm sure you're a talented musician. But the Franck Sonata is composed for violin, a stringed instrument, not a wind instrument. Which cannot sustain notes as long. And has an entirely different sound and dynamic. So I don't understand why flute and even cello arrangements are done... except to extend their limited solo repertoire.

The flute has a wide and wonderful repertoire. While some pieces may not work well on certain instruments, arrangements can breathe new life into a work. In my humble opinion this sonata sounds on flute very beautiful. Listening to a specific artist's performance can be such a unique and enjoyable experience. I also love playing arrangements because it requires finding creative musical solutions to bring the piece to life on the flute. It's always so satisfying when you can make an arrangement sound like it was written specifically for the instrument.

she is a flute professor at the CRR de saint maur in france, at such young age...graduated the paris conservatory of music at very young age. (edit: my bad in confusing the institutions, corrected it)

Not on this piece, since it's originally for violin, but you usually play from memory. I don't think this is the right place for you to give me/us any comment on my rather silly question, but what do you think is the most important thing to play flute pieces from memory. Is it a basic knowledge of music theory, or are there any other special way of memorizing? Some people say, "Well, I can do it NATURALLY." That is not the answer I'm asking! I'm not a genius at all and looking for some kind of SCIENCE. Thank you for reading!

Ju Ne hello, sorry for the late reply! I didn't memorized this piece because I didn't have time to (not because the piece is for violin )and the other flute piece I had already memorized years ago. And ,maybe is a good news, I don't memorize pieces naturally. I listen to the piece very very often (in the car,train,bus,before going to sleep,while eating...) , I write the difficult parts on a music sheet so I can check which notes is not memorized, I record myself, and i try also to put like a photo of the music sheet in my head. I don't know if this comment will help you or answer to your question....but it's true that some peoples memorize the piece naturally... anyway thank you for the comment and hope you all the best!

Yes! As you mentioned, the best part of your answer is that you don’t do it NATURALLY! How am I relieved to hear that first hand from the professional flutist I admire. But what I never do is “writing some parts on a music sheet” like you do. This is really different and one of the secrets of memorizing I have long wanted to know. Wow, it helps me a lot!!! I anticipated, but didn’t expect to receive a comment from a busy person like you. I really thank you for your precious time!!!
