WHY AM I ONLY FINDING OUT ABOUT THESE GUYS NOW??? I saw them in a Renown Films 'Glimpse" about the record industry. _They're probably the best band ever to exist, and how I wish I could have seen them live._ I'd also bet that every member of The Bonzo Dog Do Dah Band was a fan of these chaps.

Having looked up your suggestion of Fill Your Head With Rock,I suspect you are right.I recognized the track by Flock just before Black Widow.As I said,my record s were stolen a long time ago.Thks for putting me on to that one.Im now trying to work out the intricacies of buying by internet.

It was definitely the vertigo album.It had a dbl sleeve & may havve been a dbl lp.My collection was stolen in 1988/89 so I dont remember that.I do remember playing the track all weekend once when I was cracking up & pissed off w.the neighbours.

Someone asked for music similar to this, so I made his a list, and will share it here (why not?). Some bands you probably heard, some will be new to you, but I made them with "newcomers" in mind. Here are some great albums (from oldest to youngest) with "clean" vocals that you may like If you like Black Widow, or occult/dark music in general: >Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, >Mercyful Fate - Melissa, >Candlemass - Nightfall, >Testament - Souls Of Black, >Bathory - Blood on Ice, >Electric Wizard - Come My Fanatics.... >SubRosa - No Help for the Mighty Ones, >Witch Mountain - Cauldron Of The Wild. A "starter pack" would be Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Candlemass - Nightfall and Witch Mountain - Cauldron Of The Wild.

@kynoceph8 жыл бұрын
well, Jethro Tull's first two or three albums for sure...A newer band called Blood Ceremony is also brilliant. They are definitely in this same vein (so to speak). You listen to their albums and it sounds like they just arrived out of 1975 in a time machine. They also like to sing about occult matters! Very worth your while.

Coven is a female lead band from the 70's.
@Deadhammer2187 жыл бұрын
I think you should start from beginning (bands with clear vocals, but "occult" or "dark" lyrics) - check those albums (sorted from oldest to youngest): >Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, >Mercyful Fate - Melissa, >Candlemass - Nightfall, >Testament - Souls Of Black, >Bathory - Blood on Ice, >Electric Wizard - Come My Fanatics.... >SubRosa - No Help for the Mighty Ones, >Witch Mountain - Cauldron Of The Wild. If I would have to recommend 3 albums from the list to start with, it would be 1.*Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath,* 2.*Candlemass - Nightfall* 3.*Witch Mountain - Cauldron Of The Wild* First one is timeless classic, that made everything else on the list possible, second is overall great doom metal album with one of the best vocals of all time, and the last one is doom/stoner metal that has great female vocalist and a "witchy" vibe. Tell me if you liked it, I'm "darker" music's walking encyclopedia, and I know what to recommend to whom. If I would recommend you black metal albums right now, you would probably think that this music is piece of crap and never go back to it, but it's like shock therapy for your hearing senses, so you should start with more "accesible" music that have clean vocals. I hope you, or someone read this, because I amogst all those albums are some less known bands which are excellent, and deserve a listen. PS. I'm interested if you liked anything from the list. and I'm waiting for your opinion ;) Then (if you want of course) I can recommend some more goodies based on your preferences ;P

\You're right it's great, I used to hear it when I was only 7 years old through the wall of the other bedroom where my older brother (teenager in the 70's) was playing records and it used to lull me off to sleep!!! As a result all through my life I was never afraid of any concept called 'Satan', I just associated it with great rock music!! I'm actually a Christian but I know that Christ would enjoy this record, especially when they laugh slightly hysterically when they're busy dancing about singing Come to the Sabbat(h?)!! The Lord said rest on the Sabbat(h), enjoy yourself, play music and dance, don't work, that was the seventh day wish but sadly the Roman Empire (crumbling at the end of 4th Century) got their power back by saying we're Christian now but planted 'Sabbat' like rituals (fire worship etc) with churches and priests to regain their power, (Holy Roman Empire, to the become Catholic, replica of Babylon), Sorry I'm rambling on but yes these guys Black Widow did a great job, brilliant music and it made me never afraid of evil, it's just a name and a rock song!! Cheers, Drunken Cyclops, I'm also a bit drunk, have had a couple of Stella Artois and wanted a trip down memory lane on the you tube and sung along!! How I'm able to type I don't know!! Best Wishes to you, Claire Foxgloves

I know I'm seven years late, but it's worth noting that this came out only a month after Sabbath's first album, so heavy metal wasn't even recognised as a distinct thing yet. I'd argue that actually there's stylistic elements here that show up a fair bit in modern stoner doom so despite its flutes and slower pace it's not as un-metal as you might think.
