Hi! I loved watching this video! I’m actually planning on making some fondant figures for my daughter’s birthday cake using JB cookie cutters but I’m kinda confused on how you got each layer of fondant to stick to the main layer? Did you use something in particular? And what’s the tool you used to add detail to your fondant? :)
@CakingatMidnight3 ай бұрын
That's a great question and I have never liked rolling out my fondant with corn starch or powdered sugar. I use Pam with flour or bakers joy spray. I spray it on the clean counter and then lightly wipe the table. It gives the fondant a slight tackiness and then when applying the layers together it's enough to make them stick
@CakingatMidnight3 ай бұрын
I went back to look at the tool and I'm not sure the name of it but it came in one of my fondant shaping tools kit. Just has a small smooth pointed edge on it that I use to add details

Can you send me the images you are trying to work with? With these cutters I like to have a thin piece of fondant for the whole image as a back to work off of to essentially hold it all together and is easier to pick up. Then it is just piecing it together as you go. You can email me [email protected] or DM me on Instagram and I will try my best to help you through it 💜

Yes! If having trouble with humidity then add a little more tylose powder. Once they are dry an air tight container should hold them a few days. Or just laying on a rack for a day or 2 until ready to use.

Really cool! It looks like a paused splash! You could add small hints of color(s) to add some depth. Would food coloring, food dyes or the luster dusts/pearlized luster dusts change the consistency and/or outcome of the isomalt? In reference to your sculpture, on the one side broken off you could create an environment for a mermaid or water sprite or Disney's Little Mermaid characters. That is such a very useful material. It reminds me of an edible resin. Thanks for generously sharing your knowledge and expertise with us all! Happy Caking (at Midnight 😉)
@CakingatMidnight Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes! You can totally add color. On the bag of isomalt it tells you what temp to add color so these could be sooo many different things. Thanks so much for watching 💜💜

I have tried using the silicone mold for these. My problem is getting the edge thick enough so when you put it on the heat to smooth it out you don't have the holes like you showed. Even when I tried doing the chocolate twice.
@CakingatMidnight2 жыл бұрын
Ok! If buying the 3 piece molds in an option for you.... Do it! GAME CHANGER! but if you don't want to buy more molds then with the silicone molds apply chocolate to just the edges 1st. Let dry a bit and then go add you 1st layer of chocolate. Let dry and then add a 2nd coat. Focusing mostly on the edge. When I was using the silicone molds I would hold them up to the light to see what areas were thinner than others and then add chocolate where I needed. Does that makes sense / or help?

@@Decorationdreamz4u I tried my mold last night and thought I did them right No I must have done it wrong I did everything that was shown on another video because the chocolate stuck to the part of the mold that were impossible to get out and I ended up breaking the one side off the mold trying to force the shell out and it destroyed that part of the mold. I went back and watched a different video where it showed the chocolate molded around the insert like it should have so I ended up calling Amazon and they are sending me out a new mold plus I need to order 2 more of these molds so I can do more at a time so I don't know what I did wrong butI will be very careful this next time
@Decorationdreamz4u2 жыл бұрын
@@sherriristow3454 Were you using the 3-piece molds and they were missing the thin silicone inserts? You have to use the inserts or else your chocolate will break. If you were using the mold with the silicone and your chocolate still broke, it could be a couple of things, like not leaving it in the freezer long enough (I do 7 minutes), or your mold wasn't completely clean. I use a paper towel that I squirt with everclear (you could use vodka, too) and then I thoroughly wipe the inside of the mold where the chocolate is poured. I do this before I fill every time. As for more molds, I hear you. I have 4 sets of all of the sizes. I purchased mine on Etsy from a shop that sells them in quantities of 4.
