This is a fantastic video - going through a similar issue with a 2013 90. Same as you, previous owner said it ran good but when we got it home it didn’t run well and we found that one of the injectors was clogged. The etecs are vary hard to to conduct DIY injector cleaning. We sent the injectors off but now the engine coughs and dies. It’s very frustrating. I need to check the eem lights. Will be checking vst pressure next.

I wasn’t really in the market for one but my lhs had them half off since they had them so long and I had a real fj80 so I figured why not. Pretty cool truck.

You can, mostly everything is still available at least for now. They are pretty expensive though. Definitely not as easy to get as mercury or Yamaha though. Also, some shops won’t work on them.

Mine is a 96. I know it will fit 96-2000. 01-02 are sometimes different. There’s also a California version.

Yea son, mine is running hella rich, I got a 95 3.slow that burns gas like a bulldozer. It’s absolutely insane. I’m thinking about replacing the o2 sensor or the fuel injector

Yes I replaced them with matched injectors to the emm I put in.

Dude I bought a sunbird and the same shit . But I pulled the motor and fixed and replaced in one weekend took the floors up and pulled the gas tank out and put stringers in . Put 10 gallon plastic gas tank in where the spare battery went . All new seats redone all the front cushions in the open bow . Keep up the process

My lights didn’t come on near my EMM. I disconnected the battery for a minute or so and hooked it back up and it fired back up again.

Not sure if you’ll see this, i have no spark but emm lights function as they should, emm also has no codes i believe, could this be a bad stator?

It could be. I’ve heard of people having issues with the stator on these. Best thing to do is get a volt meter and check resistance on it first.

@@ramenbuilt6411 I will be checking resistance on that and the capacitor, when i plug in with the software it shows the motor is outputting 24-26 volts on cranking. I thought this was supposed to be 55, but the manual says between 20-40 is normal, leaning towards capacitor being bad now, i will update you

They are good in my opinion. They do have an ecu issue with the knock sensor circuit that requires a new ecu or either that portion removed that I think costs around $400. Other than that the engines are super reliable.

Did you ever have a situation where the programming information appeared to be "forgotten" an hour later (after you programmed it). This keeps happening to me. It works, successfully for about an hour, and they they don't work anymore. Weird.

The 3.4L is actually a highly overrated engine. They can run a long time, but even if you inspect every inch of these engines for maintenance, they will continue to have reoccurring problems like valve cover oil leaks and what not. I've done so much work to my engine and it still goes, but runs like garbage. I'm still running on 4 out of 6 cylinders. Needs head gasket work, probably needs rebuilt to the bottom. Unfortunately it's all I have and I can't afford a cheap car right now. Later on, the simple answer is either rebuild it, or get a new engine. The 1UZ, 2UZ, 4.0L are far better motors to me.

Bleeding breaks in these needs two people. Person in the driver’s seat turns the ignition and pushes the breaks simultaneously person 2 opens the bleed valve. Close it then have them turn off the car. My 8 year daughter helped me.

Yeah it was. Mine was missing the ball initially causing the clutch not to work.

I gained back around 2 mpg from this. This particular truck had a failing coil pack that wasn’t noticeable until later on. Once it was changed it made the most difference. (According to a friend of mine I sold it to)
