Adaptation arrangements for solo guitar are always fun, so many possibilities. Thanks for inspiring me to purchase an instrument in your Spring 1980 Hartnell "Intro to Guitar" class. The guitar has been a constant companion to me all these years; a source of solace, inspiration and fun.😇🤗

Hello! Many years no chat! Do you still play your wonderful Oribe? Is that the guitar here? My best to you!
@MusicbyTomingas Жыл бұрын
Hi sorry I didn't see this for a while, in fact it looks like a full year! Yes I'm still playing Oribe guitars, in fact the one with the Gold back was an award. They gave me a lifetime achievement award in music. I just about fell over. You can't sign up for it can't lobby for it can't pay for it They just either do or don't. And it's absolutely perfect for me, Oribe picked it out. It's his last instrument at the height of his career. His wife had a stroke and he said that's it I'm not doing anymore going to spend my time on family. It's bird's eye maple and absolutely stunning in every regard. My very best to you I hope everything is going in a direction that you like!

Who was luthier of guitar you played on this video ?
@MusicbyTomingas3 жыл бұрын
Hello Stephan, Jose Oribe www.OribeGuitars.com has always been the luthier of my concert guitars, not by agreements or whatever, simply because they are like living, breathing personalities that I like very much. The one in the video was actually a Concert Flamenco made around 1970 with Cypress sides and back but with a Cedar top which gave it a warm rich sound with very clear basses allowing for interesting arrangements that can carry the melody into the bass or complex bass parts without being muddy. Oribe's last guitar before retiring is a Birds Eye Maple masterpiece that was very much like the Flamenco but with HUGE sound, incredible harmonics and high, clean and rich upper registers. It was presented to me as a "Lifetime Achievement Award in Music" in 2017. To call it thrilling to play is an extreme understatement. I hope you are finding an instrument that speaks to you! My very best to you and your pursuit! Byron

Thanks so much Byron for a lifetime of music appreciation 🤗 You introduced me to the classical guitar with an evening introductory class at Hartnell College in Salinas,CA in the spring of 1980, I was 24 now 64 🤠 I truly appreciate simple folk melodies and contemporary works arranged for classical guitar, I even sponsor a young Patreon artist in England. I was never a performer, but so much of my personal recreation was centered around classical guitar and my very limited skillset. Please post more of your performances. I would purchase your transcriptions, I read notation, but tablature is a wonderful facilitating complement to learning optimal positioning and fingering more quickly. Many Happy trails to you 🐴 Christopher www.hitchnroll.com

Christopher, What a pleasant surprise to get your note on my KZbin channel after all these years. I've been immersed in playing as usual but since returning to my home, I also get to indulge in my other passion, long walks in the mountains. It's such a pleasure to hear that your life too has been so enriched by music. I've been working on two major projects, one: TomingasFoundation.org and the other is live streaming "Tunes & Tales with Byron" planning on doing it consistently on Friday nights about 8pm. The sound quality has been a problem, so I've been testing a lot of streaming software options to find one optimized for music instead of a single voice, most were built for conferencing and instruction. Interesting how we wound up at the age we are now, suddenly youth was a long time ago. So far my older brother and I have proven to be extremely lucky in the gene pool, in fact our sensational Mom is still 110% "there" and thriving at 97 years old now! We think she's raising the bar a bit too high..... My very best to you and yours, Byron ByronsGuitar.com

Critics rarely write accurately. To be fair, sound quality has to suffer being that far up one's own ass.

Too True! The difficult part of criticism for a sensitive soul though is that logic and emotion have never even been introduced, they live in different universal planes, so while a person can be logical, if it hurts it still hurts. But, I'll keep the sensitivity anyway.

Byron... thanks again for your rememberance of not only knowing Morrie, but of our years together with Dr. Ron and many others at Calif Institute of the Arts... AND your dedication to rembering our early years together as the "rocker" who played not only rock n' roll, but classical music and even some flamenco as we helped to usher in the "modern age of guitar"... I will never forget! Bonnie and Rich Morrison S Carolina

I'm currently transcribing the piano accompaniment to guitar because I will be accompanying a violinist friend, and I wanted to see if anyone else did it, instead I found a completely solo guitar version. This is amazing.
@MusicbyTomingas10 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your kind compliment! As the composition was based on a Gypsy Flamenco sound I thought it might work well but benefit from having been constructed by a great master composer. It's kind of a killer to play though. I received both standing ovations in major concerts and serious criticism for doing this transcription. I hope you post your final result, I would love to hear a Violin/Guitar combination, that should be a terrific matchup!
