I'd prefer your livery, Rene, although I don't mind the Qantas or Lufthansa liveries. I.A.G (International Airlines Group) totaly destroyed the Iberia and Aer Lingus Liveries and branding. I notice they haven't touched the BA livery. Maybe that's the idea, make the other Airlines look like down market versions of BA?

I have a couple of M8s - used. I got them mint when the M9 was released. They are excellent but never had any sensor issues. I do have the filters just in case. I absolutely agree that the sensor does have a quality that reminds me of Ektachrome but keep the ISO low as possible. Everybody has different eyeballs and colour register. There. Is much web chatter about keeping ‘out of date’ cameras, they being still excellent and capable. My Canon 5Ds still superb. So the message really is don’t be a rampant consumer. My only camera wish is a film Leica MP.

I have the old Typ109 - basically the first version of this. I’ve had it for ten years now as a backup for many other cameras, including an M8, and found no reason to replace it with a D-Lux 7, and feel likewise about the D-Lux 8. If the T109 should give up the ghost, I might consider a replacement, but it’s hard to consider either as much of an “upgrade”. 🙂

Well mine arrives next week and looking forward to complete my Leica holy trinity; SL3, Q3, D-Lux8. My go to EDC street camera was a Ricoh GRiiix (FF 40mm) and I also had the GRiiiStreet (FF 28mm) for a while but as I always seemed to have the wrong one in my hand I sold the wide one…..so looking forward to the zoom for when I need to recompose. There a couple of things on the camera you didn’t mention especially the little flash that comes with it. Coupled with the leaf shutter you can use fill flash up to 1/4000 sec and of course slow synchro for creative motion blur. You can also use faster SD cards. From watching some other reviews it seems the auto focus is vastly improved, but agree the zoom might be the Achilles heel in terms of being a bit slow and not having 28/35/50/75 stop options. I can see why you would not upgrade and I hope I’m not disappointed moving from the brilliant GR cameras, but I think having the same DNA as the SL/Q I will be able to operate it more successfully. Seeing you haven't played with a D Lux 8. that was a very negative review.

I flow my Mimi 2 on a beach called Playa Flamingo. it was after most of the sunbathers had gone home or to they're hotels. In fact there was only one person sitting on a bench just off the beach itself. He came over and told me that I couldn't fly on Lanzarote it's against the law. I told him I had checked the law before coming to Lanzarote and I am flying with in the rules. He then said he was calling his brother who is a police officer and then pushing his phone in my face saying speak to him. I was then running out of battery so I hit the home button. Meanwhile I spoke to the guy on the phone who was adamant that I was braking the law and was on his way to the beach. I had put a landing mat on the sand and the man pick it up and walked off with it forcing me to catch the drone in my hand. The so called police officer arrive in civilian clothes and told me a load of bullshit about drone laws on Lanzarote that didn't ring true and tried to grab the drone bag off me saying that he whats the footage as its Illegal material. he then tried again to grab my bag so I put my had up to stop him and at that he fell on the sand shouting something in Spanish his brother then came running over screaming you hit him you hit him. I of course didn't hit him but told him he would get the same if he didn't fuck off. i am 70 so I really didn't want to get in a fight not with two younger men but to my surprise they walk off after my wife who was watching from a far started screaming at them. I never got my land mat back. A I was a little shook up by the event. I found out the day I was leaving that both men worked in our hotel kitchen. 👨🏻‍🍳

There doesn’t seem to be much to be excited about with the dlux8, unless you wanted a dlux7 with a OLED viewfinder and a more Leica Q3 looking body. Those dlux7 photos are absolutely glorious. Still, I wonder if the same quality can be produced with the Panasonic Lumix LX100mII version. For me, one of the novelties of the dlux7 is all the buttons and dials, and other tactile controls which contributes in my mind to the shooting experience but they have now taken some of that away with the dlux8. At a minimum they could,have made the dlux8 more dust resistant but they don’t appear to have done that. Any chance we see a price drop on the dlux7 now,that the dlux8 is out?

It’s a nice camera no doubt. Basically a D-lux 7 with quality of life upgrades OLED EVF and improved screen, possible more efficient processor, mb better battery life (according to one review) and Leica ergonomics and menu. Other than that these are the same Panasonic guts from the LX100 II - which is 6 years old so it’s too bad they didn’t use the latest sensor. The lens i wish they improved on and actually made it a manual zoom. I’m not a fan of fly by wire and yes I agree this retractable lens needs to be babied a bit. Other retractable lens that are weather resistant are better.

Dead right on the barrel extension lens. My travel camera is a fantastic little Canon G7X Mk2, with a dust particle inside the lens. It’s a well known fault with them, and purely due to the barrel extension lens. I love your photos, they’re actually one of the reasons I won’t go for the Leica, I know I could never do it justice. Instead of the expense of the Leica or higher end Fujifilm I’m on the lookout for a Fujifilm X10.. Thanks for the video, very informative (loved Quagmire’s cameo 😂)
