Dad is the real MVP in this video. This is a great recording. I'm about to head here myself in a month with my family. I'm debating whether to do the walk down or take the boat. I'm thinking walk down and take the boat when we leave.
@toddashleyryanjack2 ай бұрын
Thanks! Yeah you gotta do the walk down because of the insane view, but good call with the boat ride when you're done; that climb out was no joke. 😅

I've watched probably a couple hundred KZbin videos of (other people's) Italy vacations and not once have I seen someone go up Brunelleschi's Dome. I didn't even realize the public could! This is amazing.

Nicely done gentlemen. Really liked the underwater scene. Thinking of going there for a hike. I tried going a couple of years ago but it was closed. Thanks for showing me that it is back open.

It was a bigger than 7.0 quake to do that. John Muir in his cabin in Yosemite Valley was thrown out of bed 200 miles away. All through solid granite.

Crazy how massive the scarp is, and how almost perfectly straight it is too. You can see it so well in google maps satellite view.

👍👍Great video! Thanks for sharing the effects of these 2 earthquakes- amazing to see how the surfaces changed so much! (Dirt, rocks, and blacktop) I’m interested to see that some places looked like small cracks and disturbed for sure, while others were big gashes and looked quite deep. 👏👏

Great views! Thanks for posting this video! I saw your comment on Nick Zentner’s channel.... I’m interested in geology, and your video is awesome - showing what this fault scarp looks like. 👍👍

This has to be a geology professor's dream. Owens Valley is so dry that despite the 148 years that have passed since that terrible earthquake the escarpment remains essentially as it was the minute the fault broke. There has been *_some_* erosion obviously, but it still looks pretty much as it did after the rupture. To think that that plain was perfectly flat, and in the course of a minute the west wide of the fault became 20 ft. higher and 35 ft. further north than the minute before. All those years I drove by the Alabama Hills going to Mammoth Lakes to go skiing and I never knew the fault scarp was there, even though I knew the history of the 1872 earthquake. Now I'm going to have to go back and gaze upon it up close just to get a feel for the unmitigated power of that massive earthquake.

Nice video. Any idea the history of the white boulders near the van?
@briane1734 жыл бұрын
My guess is they're probably glacial erratics transported from the east flank of the Sierra Nevada maybe 10s or 100s of thousands of years ago, and as sediment collected around them over that time they just laid there buried until the fault broke and exposed them.

Do you get gps signal? I dont wanna get Lost and be eaten by wolves😱😱😱😱
@toddashleyryanjack6 жыл бұрын
Haha! The hike is less than a mile and the trail is pretty worn down by all the hikers. There are no trees, so keeping your direction out there is easy. The 395 is about 1.5 miles away, so although it looks desolate in this video, you are close to help if you needed it. Good news: no wolves in this area, but just watch out for rattlesnakes.
