nice to see you call this post on the dolly a column, and not a Bazooka; as this congures up the thought of the hand-held american made rocket launcher of the 1960's era, and this is not one of them, it is a pedistal like you use to mount a bench grinder on!!

There is no owning it just like owning a Panavision camera, no such thing this equipment it is only for hire. That being said I'll bet that the lease on this for a normal film shoot (3-4 weeks) would cost more than buying a mid range Mercedes.

Actually it's not a problem to buy a dolly, a lot of production studios actually own dollyes. If you run your own studio, it won't be wise to rent dolly everytime you shoot something.

Not at all cranes are very usefull. Drones run out of battery in like 20mins from using it

Bobayeka da bogeyman I personally interested of VERY, REALLY CINEMATIC ... music video. I don't care the noise at all. The audio is recorded in studio. Noise of drone doesn't make me unefficient to put the audio on the right place. So at my side, this is not a problem. But that drones are not smooth enough, mostly true. The drone must to be roboust, heavy, to be more preciese. They are expensive too. On other way, I'm okay with the 20 minutes, because you can swap the battery. But it's not the same. On the end again the question, if it's worthed or not

sadly a 3 axis foes all this and more with a even smaller footprint. this is only needed on 40lbs plus camera loads. and even then there is a 120lbs load 3 axis and steady cam vest arm

A gimbal is much more hassle to set-up, and does not double as a tripod for the next shot, unlike this dolly. Also, the dolly will be much smoother, if you have a flat surface to work from. If you don't, well then a gimbal/steadicam is a better option.

I use to lease a superpeewee and jl studio 10 and they are the best dollies money can rent. Yes gimbals arent always the best solution for all applications but you can achieve very similar results with less man power and tighter windows of time and space. If you arent trying to fly an overbuildt massive camera. Since this post I had the chance to use this dolly and it was amazingly designed for smaller crews. It worked well and didnt take up the time that rigging a superpeewee3 would take. I have a custom built ped dolly in my grip truck that mounts a 6ft slider thst i rig my movi pro too and gets amazing reliable results. Film camera work is like anything. Tools are half the battle. Ive been at this 25years and have grown my gear for my needs and wants. I Love leonard chapmam gear but its so expensive to lease being in seattle doesnt have the demand to justify the cost. Ive turned away from these lease only company for gear i can put in my truck for a single purchase price. This is a great dolly but there are other ped dollies that can be owned outright for a 2 day rental. Not as good but close enough for most needs. Sadly my hmi lighting isnt as easy to use and requires alot of big bulky gear that can be a real hassle pending the locations . Im slowly acquiring new led panels, but the oanel worth buying are super spendy for me at this time. I got into this in the early 90s, technology jas really revolutionized the industry making it much more affordable for average people and the quality has come a long way.
