I drive past this most days and today for the first time I noticed the picture on the wall outside, of the Giant. Curiosity killed the cat, as it were, and lead me, through Google, to this lovely video. I have a family connection to Ilkeston only in that my Aunt lived here. There is no one left that I know now. As I drive through I sing the Glen Campbell hit, Galveston, to the words Ilkeston, oh Ilkeston, I can feel your sea winds blowing.........I'm off now to look up the giant and hope one day to stop to look around. Robert Lindsay, a great actor and a very worthwhile cause that he supports.

It's a lovely place, well looked after by the Friends of Stanton Road Cemetery. It was a pleasure and a privilege to sing my song there about Samuel Taylor, the Ilkeston Giant. The lifesize statue of him, carved out of a tree trunk, is awe-inspiring. If you haven't visited yet, you surely must!
