I gave up at Tower Gateway, someone had their music on in the quiet coach.

35,000 volts
@Steven_Rowe2 жыл бұрын
Depending on where it is Normally the voltage is 25kv but I believe that when they did the TGV test run of 575kph they raised the line voltage to 35KV so as to reduce the current Regardless the power consumption would still have used high current
@TEMPLE7D2 жыл бұрын
@@Steven_Rowe Yep, the voltage was boosted from 25,000 to 35,000 volts just for the speed run. The line tension was also increased to accommodate the fast pantograph. The train had larger wheels than usual. The increase in power was to increase horsepower output from the train to achieve higher speeds than normal.
@Steven_Rowe2 жыл бұрын
@@TEMPLE7D it was some run to watch on KZbin It's what you come to expect from France and why they rule the rails Even back in 1955 the French managed 300 KPH with a 1500DC loco. Even today the 1500 DC network is still quick We travelled from Tours to Paris on a loco hauled service and we got to 200 KPH

Getting rid of diesels loco's, how many trucks does one 3,000hp loco remove? Why don't you push the owners of these great big tin sheds, to move to rail as well, the money invested in GEFCO over at Corby, now run by BCA all wasted, when theres 6 or more massive sheds. Now you have DB running weekly trains to Europe from Toton, all run by diesel. If the whole network rail was all under electric, the UK doesn't have the capacity to generate enough power, then compound the fact you will have electric cars charging, the grid just isn't their at present. So funny when you have the Government reversing there woke lets go green agenda on trying to keep West Burton, Ratcliffe on Sour coal power stations running as base loading. Then push to drive oil & gas back to the forefront, its all good when there is no ripples in the pond, goes to show, Oil & Gas will be around longer than any of us.

Interesting and unique ride to see the GWML from the rear. Electrification should continue to Swansea, Bristol Temple Meads, Oxford and to Taunton from Newbury.

I think the sound of a dentists drill or a chainsaw would have been far more appropriate and pleasant to listen to. And why the same track playing over and over? Is this the only tune in your collection?

What a shame, I remember when there were shiny tracks on the viaduct/ramp and plenty of action... let me guess they are going to build yet another eyesore skydong that no one wants. Its very ironic that with the closure of the south and eastern goods stations, congestion rose palpably because losing the short transit deliveries forced HGV's to stifle London's streets hence why much of central London is at a crawl when the goods stations had the goods whisked round in fast lower polluting vans door to door all the way... progress they call it.

Been under that bridge many a time when I used to work in Bishopsgate late 70's to mid 80's! Kind of sad all that magnificent solid brickwork which survived the blitz was replaced by a girder bridge...

The girder bridge looks quite impressive, at least its not some ugly brutalism concrete monstrosity. And the bricks are being reclaimed for other projects as far as I'm aware.

Electrification is good, but if this line follows the practice on other electrified lines, at least 90% of freight trains will still be diesel hauled even when the wires go all the way. I can never understand why.

Thumbs down solely because of the 'music' soundtrack. Silence would have been better.
