As an Indonesian leaning towards Reformed high orthodoxy, I find this interview to be tremendously interesting! Dr. Thianto’s outline of early zending activity in Java sheds much light on the importance of baptism and catechesis in church life, which, in my view, explains the rise of Pietistic missionaries that came in later centuries. I too am aware of the apparent imbalance between the sacramentology of the Heidelberg Catechism and the other Reformed confessions, and I believe Muller’s conclusion hits the right chord on this: that we must take the confessions in light of the whole of orthodoxy. By this, I mean that we must read and teach the Catechism in reference to and only in reference to the other 2 Forms of Unity (of the Belgic and of Dort), or even of the Westminster and the Helvetic. This has been a great talk. Cheers!

I do not follow Muller when he goes against Helm and others. Sure we can hold that the will has multiple potencies and that they remain even after we have chosen. However, there is only one potency X that is eventually actualized. Therefore, potency not-X can only be actualized if God wills that not-X. Apart from Gods willing, potency not-X is unactualizable. We have the ability to do other than we have done, sure, but this has to be a conditional ability, not an absolute ability. How this is somehow different from Edwards concept of natural/moral ability, I don't know.

Given the definition of a(n active) potency, what does it mean to have an "unactualizable" potency? Depending on your answer, this might constitute one of the differences between Edwards' concept of natural ability and the synchronic contingency that Muller argues was present in the RO. Also, does Edwards affirm that there is alternativity/an ability to do otherwise in the act of *choosing* an object and does an ability depend upon the will's choice for its existence (does ability follow from the will's activity)? Many more questions could be asked as well.

To say that Muller is a great scholar is almost like damning with faint praise. He is an Olympian of scholarship.

Very interesting! Question- why the name change from Vivere apud Christum to Psychopanychie?
