I was there and am given credit on the CD liner notes for getting this project started. Myself and my partner Bert recorded this show as well, prepared a cassette and had Ronnie Earl critique it. I then forwarded it to Bob Koester (RIP Blues Man) at Delmark Records and the rest is history although there were other recordings made that same night which were apparently used in this final product. We booked Sam into various venues at Madison, Wisconsin over a three year period and were instrumental in getting him into the first Ann Arbor Blues Festival in August of 1969. Sam was a great guy and a wonderful blues guitarist and singer. He made his Stratocaster sing with his finger-picking style and could boogie with the best of them. Forget those videos with Earl Hooker's borrowed guitar. That's not the genuine Sam but they are good performances. He was taken way too soon at the age of 32 on 12/1/1969.
