Loved this & tried it works beautifully! I did add one thing & that was I cut up an old yoga mat to the size of the feet, glued them onto the bottom of them. I was concerned about the cement bottoms scratching the wood floors & add it adds a slight bit to the stability as it doesn't move around as much! Thank you for all your videos/tutorials!

I got a lot out of watching your DIY barre tutorials -Thanks for the useful information. I'm a personal trainer, not a dancer and I was looking for a way to make a stable, portable grip for balance practice. I work with a lot of clients recovering from injuries. After watching your variations I decided to work with Galvanized Steel. I need the support to be able to be fixed, so I redesigned the unit to have a single leg and the barre piece attached to the wall with a floor flange. The ballet barre piece screws into the wall mounted flange and at the other end, into the elbow. My design can be quickly disassembled when I don't need it. Since my studio is small, having modular equipment I can store easily is really helpful. I just wanted to thank you again for generously sharing your experimentations.

I am glad the tutorials have helped - That sounds like a great design workaround and the fact that you can still remove it when you aren't using it is great!

is it sturdy enough to do barre class exercises?
@DanceParent101 Жыл бұрын
Hi sorry for the late reply. Barre class uses the barre to create resistance in some exercises and you are more likely to press down on the barre, rather than use it mainly for balance. I would say for home practice yes, but not if you wanted to use these in a studio for professional use. I would definitely recommend this one over a full PVC barre as the wood makes the barre heavier which would make it sturdier for Barre Class. I would also recommend this DIY barre over a galvanised steel barre as even though it is heavier, the actual barre is thinner.

Did the pipe come already threaded or did you have to get them threaded at an engineering workshop?
@DanceParent101 Жыл бұрын
I bought the pipe already threaded from a hardware store. It came in specific lengths. A lot of people use this type of pipe to make industrial looking shelves for their homes. A plumbing shop sells this pipe without threading and can thread for you at specific lengths.

@DanceParent1012 жыл бұрын
Genuinely interested in knowing how you would do it differently so I can provide more helpful videos? Are you talking about the bun being lower? Many ballet dancers do that as it is easier to tie their hair back neatly - we do that sometimes with my same daughter in this video as her hair almost reaches her tailbone now and can take forever to get in line with her chin for a weekly class?
@Marjoriehannah3 жыл бұрын
Hey, Love your channel - did you find the galvanised steel to be more stable than the pvc or are they similar?
@DanceParent1013 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment and YES!!! We did find the galvanized steel to be more stable than the PVC because it is heavier, my daughter used this in her room last year for her online lessons. The galvanized pipes are thinner though than a normal barre, the PVC was more comparable in width. I personally liked using the double PVC barre I have on this channel - because it is lighter and because it is less stable it made me more aware that I had to use my core and muscles and only use the barre as support. You can stretch on both - put your leg up on them - but you definitely feel more confident doing that on the galvanized barre because it carries the weight of your leg better.

@DanceParent1013 жыл бұрын
Hey there. I do recommend this barre. I have filmed a video where I go through all the pros and cons of each barre I made but I need to edit it - it will be up soon!! This barre made my top three. My daughter had this in her room last year when she was doing all her zoom lessons. We liked that the metal made it heavy and sturdy. The main con is that the metal is thinner than a normal barre, but apart from that, we like using it!
@DaleSteadman3 жыл бұрын
Thank you, and what was the total cost?
@DanceParent1013 жыл бұрын
Hi Dale, I didn't put in costs because I am in Australia and those costs do not always translate to everywhere else in the world. Check out the article linked in my description for everything you will need and check the website of a store near you as costs everywhere will differ! The most expensive thing in making this particular barre is the wood you choose - Pine will be less than Oak for example and you will need to also think about sanding and varnishing the wood to make sure it doesn't splinter under the hand! A longer barre will be more expensive than shorter etc... If you were to make it with 40mm/1.5inch pipe it would cost more than if you choose to use 1inch etc! It will also depend on in what lengths you can buy your pipe to have the least amount left over in the end. I am aiming to include cost information breakdowns in the ebook I am developing. I could say less than $50 - but as I said depending on the wood it could cost more or less and if you need to buy paint, screws or PVC cement or already have those items.

I need to make one for a 5 year old. What is your recommendations for how tall to make one. Thank you
@DanceParent1013 жыл бұрын
Hi Danny, the barre should ideally be at a height in between the waist and shoulders. This barre will definitely be too tall. I would measure your five year old from the floor to their belly button and use that measurement for the side poles. It will be probably still be a little too tall because of the feet add height and the elbow adds height holding the barre at the top, but if it is too tall you can also cut the side poles down further once assembled. It is better to be to tall than too short, as you can cut it down to the perfect height.
@keranbreeden84704 жыл бұрын
As a dancer myself I've found your , storeable dance bar extremely handy. Have modified the height by 4" because I'm 5'8". Sure helps With morning workout, or times when I don't have to be at the Studio.
@DanceParent1014 жыл бұрын
Oh I am so glad it helped - was that 4 inches taller to make it 45 inches in height? I am thinking of doing a blog post or even video on modifications for people to think about before cutting their pipe so they can individualize them for the user.

Is it safe for a kid of 15 years to do on their own
@DanceParent1014 жыл бұрын
Hey Aimee. Make sure you watch the other videos on how to cut your PVC and how to glue and screw it together. If you want something a little more simple try the single or double PVC barres without wood. I would recommend getting the hardware store to cut your wood to size if you haven't used tools before, but my kids who are much younger help out with making these! I also have a tutorial on how to make metal barres from galvanised steel and those don't require any tools at all and are really sturdy!
