I was collecting old cameras at yard sales, never really thinking any more about it. After the past ten years learning digital photography, this 66 year old hobbyist has had enough in the digital world. I am dusting off these old cameras. One is the Canon EOS Rebel XS in really good condition. Everything seems to be working, now I just have to get out there and test it. I am excited to get back to film and try to remember everything I learned in my high school "Photography 101 Class" back in 1975!

Is there any way of hacking the camera into a bulb mode? I'm using the "nine exposure" and setting each one for 30 seconds manually, but it is a bit boring.

You need to dismantle all the aperture blades for cleaning and also clean the base of the aperture blades. Otherwise, even a slight bit of residual grease will cause the aperture to stick again.

On the EOS Kiss model, a small amber lamp on the lower left external eyepiece frame illuminates when the camera is in panorama mode.

switched the old battery out with a new one and my camera still isn’t turning on :/ any idea why that could be and how to fix it? can’t seem to find any videos on it and can’t really afford to take it to get it fixed

Started film again with an AE-1 program I got from my grandpa. Got tired of carrying around separate lenses when I want to shoot both film and digital. Got one of these bodies to work with my existing EF lenses and it's been so much more convenient also thanks to autowind and autofocus. I shoot film much more often now!

Apparently it is not necessary to remove the batteries from the camera, since turning it off would prevent the battery from being discharged, but it is always advisable to remove the batteries when the camera is not going to be used for a long period of time, this is to prevent the battery drain any liquid inside the camera.

i got this cam just couple of weeks. and it was great. but there’s one thing that i noticed is that : When I set the iso to 50, my shutter speed appears to be set to an invisible fastest value (it feels like 1/2 second or slower), and even when I use manual mode and set the shutter speed to 1/2000 second and press the shutter, I can hear by the sound that the shutter speed is still around 1/2 second, but when I take long exposure shots (let's say 5s), it behaves normally, andThe shutter speed performance is also normal when I set the iso to 400. I would like to ask you if you have run into this problem. To reproduce my problem, all you need to do is set the iso to 50. and set the shutter speed to 1/200 or faster.

just find out that its effected by camera date print back(quartz date back E). as long as i turn off the print function or open the back. the shutter speed goes normal. IDK why is that

On my camera I feel the shutter sound quite consistent with the speed I set on the camera. I did the test with the values that you suggested, but the best test you can do to the camera is to take photos with film in the camera to see if the photos come out well exposed.

I loaded a roll into my camera but it only counted up to 24 exposures even though this roll has 36. I rewound it back into the cassette and tried again with the same results. Is there a setting to change the exposures to 36 rather than 24? Thank you for the informative video.

Hi! First, let me say thank you for your good intention with this vídeo. Now let me say that you are teaching people to ruin their manfroto heads in no time... this grease you are using is not the correct for any part of this tripod head. The one used in the friction disc's are very thick like a glue. I am not sure exactly which one bit I am using one I found on Aliexpress that seams very similar to the original I have removed from my tripod head.

Great video but could you tell me the sequence to set so that I can view what I am shooting via the LCD Screen. I know that the viewfinder has to be pushed in, but no matter what sequences I follow I don't seem to see anything via the LCD. The camera belonged to my late wife & could well have interesting family videos on the tapes that she bought...if only I could see them .
