This dance almost similar exists in Romania kzbin.info/www/bejne/qXrQpI2AbMiLZtE&start_radio=1&t=3 is like the border variant you have.it was usually danced in may also..I think that this strange relation proves that this dance is very ancient .. at least from roman times ..

@@utedavadacia7596 The origins of the English morris dance is mid 15th century - and the costumes are modern or modern takes on 19th century styles. Has anyone actually researched the history of the Romanian dance? Roman origins are doubtful - to put it mildly.

@@Wotsitorlabart Ok. here is the equivalent of romanian dance . is unesco heritage . other variants exist in pays basque and portugal. it proves a ancient origin because is so spread. the 15 the century is of course wrong. roman or celtic or more ancient m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/p4unpX6Yp8uYmsU

@@utedavadacia7596 It proves nothing. What is the history of this dance? The very fact that you say it is 'Roman or Celtic or more ancient' clearly indicates you haven't a clue as to its history. Is it Roman? Is it Celtic? Is it more ancient still? How can you possibly link it to the English morris dance when you don't know the answer to these questions? The morris dance in England has been extensively studied over the last 30 years - the origins of the dance lie in 15th century France and the Low Countries not Romania.

@@Wotsitorlabart internet is full of explanations : suffices to tap alongside calusari morris dance and you ll find reading for some time ( if truth interests you , not only polemic). for your future researches : finding so wisespread similar customs proves it s ancient caracter and normally people try to find explanations like you ll find on internet. also it s interesting to know that rennaissance brought almost a annihilation of popular customs in occidental europe ( some people who study myths and religons almost advance a controlled , non natural supression becoz the extinction happened to fast). 15 th century is the beggining of this. it is not common to see folklore arising in this period. the fact that survived so limited in england, but are preserved in other secluded parts of europe or in eastern europe where rennaissance almost did not exist proves also it s ancient root. i have read a lot about the history of religions , myths etc. folklore is the surviving form of it ( is the ritual whose meaning is almost forgotten ). we know from romanian tradition that this dance head healing propreties. that man gathered 2 weeks to prepare before starting to visit and dans in people's homes, that they did not had any sexual relationship all this time to give them enhanced forces of conjuring the spirits. don t bother replying to me any further coz your second reply showed almost a form of bigotry ; start reading something instead like a real book .

I would have loved to play guitar as a kid and to grow up playing music in a band. That would have been a dream of mine. BUT I don't have the patience to practice unfortunately and I have short stubby fingers which I find just don't flow properly. I put my dreams to rest and just appreciate hearing a great band play. I like your sound and it's something I would have liked to have done when I was younger so- don't take anything for granted and keep up the passion. Good Job.

The Mummers New Years parade in Philly used to have minstrels and clowns dressed in black face. Black face was banned in the mid 60's when it was declared racist. A shame because it was never intended to insult anyone it was just part of the folk dancers get up .The minstrels and clowns have all disappeared and the Parade has become much less popular.

+Bob Campbell Sorry, but blacking up as minstrels is racist and insulting. Look up the "tradition" and how they presented black slaves etc. Blacking up in border morris has nothing to do with US minstrel shows and their racist vulgarity.
@MichaelSmith-um2uv
@MichaelSmith-um2uv 6 жыл бұрын
Well you are half right. The blackening of the face in ancient time was not an insult but a tribute to the MOORISH people who originated the dance. The europeans picked up the dance taken from the Moors...but of course blancos like to act like they invented everything so you'd be hard pressed to find a blanco to admit it but at least they kept the name. Moorish Dance. (by the way the moors were black)

The big difference that I see between American blackface and Morris face blackening is that in America excessively large red lips are painted on, whereas in Morris dance the face is painted entirely black. It’s all about context. And in America the context is so racially charged that it’s impossible to wear blackface and NOT be taken the wrong way, regardless of intention. Given what I know of Philly, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the mummers were wearing black face with red lips, and continuing a racist tradition.

@Michael Smith - blancos? Is that something like the “n-word”? Scholars (real ones) think it far more likely that the name Morris dance comes from a erroneous association of blacked faces with the moors. The blacked face is simply a primitive mask, like the white face makeup of many sub-Saharan black, and Australian Aboriginal, cultural activities. I would not suggest that these white faces are insulting to whites, or are a tribute to whites, or that whites invented those cultural activities. The suggestion that the dances originated with the moors is merely fanciful, or motivated by a desire to denigrate a culture as merely derivative. There is no evidence to support it.

As a live performance I see some don't like the singer etc etc, in my opinion the whole "live sound" is off and poorly mixed coming across. To me at least the gains are all screwed up and not mixed well A better live mix a better live sound.

Well said, the singer is fine its the audio engineers that suck. compression on the lead vocals, better drum mic mix, and overall compression and simple levels are so off on the live stuff, it makes me think they do not have their own audio specialist but rely on the host to provide the live mix
