When I put the bottom cover on the left side goes out but if take the bottom cover back off it comes back on. Any idea what might be causing this?

Even with extremely limited soldering skills, once you open it up (which is what actually takes long,) the soldering is extremely easy. Not only that, but my original technics cables were shot, this cable replacement made the sound MUCH more better in every way, and I don't have to ground anymore and have a longer length of cable!

Is there any reason to have the ground separate vs combined?

One ground is for chassis,the other ground is for the tonearm,no ground to the cartridge.

Jeexix god your soldering needs work. Tweezers are your friend...most always...get a set. Any noobs watching this, do not solder like he is doing, go get some hands on training or find another vid. So cringe here

I think that watching your video just gave me the solution I’ve hunting for my whole weekend. I've got an old turntable too on which I want to replace the old original RCA cable whose leads are directly soldered to the terminals inside the unit just like yours. To this end, I bought high-end brand new QED RCA cables ; so far so good, but problem when I cut both cables I noticed that are not two (as 'traditionally') but three separate wires in each cable sheath, and I had no idea how to solder these 6 wires to the four-terminal circuit board of the tonearm. Even tough this stage wasn’t taped we can see when you put the board back that you wrapped the wires (i.e. those without individual plastic insulation) around one of the two others before soldering it together to the negative terminal, thank you very much, Cheers from France sorry for bad English

Why not just replace the RCA instead of the board and cable? Seems like a lot of extra work.

What is the symptom you were having that lead you to replace the board? I'm not getting sound through to my speakers (but can hear faint sound coming off the record), so I was thinking it might be bad ground and/or rca... But not sure.

I've had my 1200s since 1987. I need to replace the RCAs on both of them, But I think I might just take them to the shop. I got nervous just watching this video. Thanks for the video. It helps to know all of the trouble that I would have to go through if I did it myself.

I use needle nose pliers for tedious connections such as those colored wires.

I soldered the 5 tonearm wires but didn't do the prettiest job because I overheated the metal parts. The turntable still works so I'm just wondering if I soldered well or not.

STOKED!!! Just followed your video and replaced both 1200s rca wires. Excellent video. Thanks man!!

That giant power drill isn't necessary at all. A hand screwdriver and fingers is just fine and actually much less cumbersome and faster.
@djpuma0076 жыл бұрын
dude what don't you just use a shoe lase as a string and do loop to tigh it to the know and then thru the Pin trhu the whole and tight it or if you wana be more fancy use key ring for the pin and use a Lanyard string to tight to the know of the speaker and your done. Looks much better and not so cheesy as the one you did in this video.

Why replace the whole board? All you needed to do was replace the RCA cable and do the internal ground mod. Or am I missing something? Still a handy video :)

Dude, you sound old enough to be past the the "it's so easy" mantra. But you are not. This is easy if you have done it a few times before. For heavens sake what is wrong with - this is delicate, this is not? When creating these KZbin clips bear in mind the w i d e audience. Or to put it in a more prosaic way; pretend you are a poet or defence counsel - you need to talk to an audience that is intelligent but knows nothing.

You didn't internally ground them?
@pstentertnmt7 жыл бұрын
The RCAs are already internally grounded so you don't need to do it yourself. Saves you a step!

The black tab is a safety device to secure the wires and prevent them from detaching and causing a short and/or electrocution. Weird that in the vid you state that you don't bother with this!

if your going to use a drill set the clutch very low to like 1 or 3. just to snug the screw. after wards use a screwdriver to tighten it completely. I would never have you touch anything for anyone untill you learn the basics.
@clintcastellano99107 жыл бұрын
you never tightend down the right screw all the way down. Please use a screw driver and get yourself a pair of tweezers so your not wasting time and fucking up your soldering joints

For those that have been asking. at 8:47 of the video (kind of off screen and a little blurry) DJ Valence cuts the ground wire (the one that go's out with the RCAs) at the ring. Leaving the ring and the ground wire that go's from the ring, across the tone arm base, around the tone arm base, under the clay weight, to the pitch control screw. This one needs to be left as is. So to review the only ground wire that is cut is the one from the ring going out of the turntable with the old RCAs. Hope that helps.

I thing that your video is very helpful but i still have a question. You need to put the ground wire ou the new RCA PCB doesn't need?
@keivonhobeheidar22388 жыл бұрын
I didn't catch what you did with that ground wire. Did you just snip it off, or ground it internally on one of the L/R grounds on the board the RCA cables were connected to?
@JavaNinja728 жыл бұрын
Did he ever get back to you with an answer? It looked like he just sniped it off and left the internal ground screwed into the board but not connected to anything else. Perhaps the shield wires from the rca cables are connected through the board. Could test with multi meter.
@keivonhobeheidar22388 жыл бұрын
I actually went through with the purchase, swapped them out, and realize the new boards were already internally grounded. Came with that configuration out of the box. Just snipped the portion of the wire shown in the video. Was very simple! Tables sound great too!
@1200technics18 жыл бұрын
You didnt put the black tab back in that connects to the metal plate or does it fit with the new wires?
@djvalence99778 жыл бұрын
+1200technics1 It does fit with them, I just skipped that step because that's how my other tables are. I actually put the tab on later, but didn't want to re-edit the video.
@1200technics18 жыл бұрын
Ok they did fit i put mine on this weekend everything worked fine.Thanks for the video..
