Not bad for using common sense and simple logic . Dovetail way jointer aren’t really meant to be adjusted. They get messed up from people lifting the machine at the end of the tables. Your process was about halfway right. Too me it doesn’t really look Ike you need a jointer right now. Beginning stage of a woodshop?

I installed 2 of these sheds and the most important factor is that the base is level because a 1/2 inch difference in the front increases to a 1 inch difference 12 feet downstream in the rear of the shed this causes big time alignment issues!

Around here on marketplace the cheapest ones I can find in that 2hp range are all at least 200.00 and look well used. A new one is only 300.00 and a new Wen unit of comparable size is 349.00 so I'm inclined just to go ahead and buy the Wen model which will come with the larger impeller. Buying the harbor freight unit and then buying the wen impeller, I'd end up spending nearly as much as if I just bought the Wen unit outright and then I'd still have to do the modification. Hardly seems worth it to me. I won't be using the bags, or any of the other hardware besides the motor and the platform as I will be piping the exhaust out the back wall of my garage, letting the chips and sawdust accumulate in a pile behind the garage. I'll use them as compost and/or mulch and what I can't use I can haul to the brush pile to burn off later.
@lindseyacresfarm2 ай бұрын
I really considered going that route. I pulled back from doing so because I saw the crazy deal on market place and the wen requires a 220 so that limited my locations. Ironically it now sits next to the 220 outlet anyway.

I'm surprised that you have put a few of these together you didn't duct tape the joints, just so things don't fall apart as you are working. You can always remove it when you are done, if you like.

I have done that in the past and it would leave a residue I didn’t like. I just got used to doing it without. This gave me more popping off issues because of the tight area.

It a great idea to research before you start. I guess you noticed, Rachael Gingell, from the Steiner videos, and I think she has some videos of her own now, for some reason put the idle tube in the base. She actually drills through from the top ,the bottom of the carburetor, and threads from the bottom and then uses JB Weld to patch the whole in the bottom. She don't show what is done with the original part where the threads are, maybe just shorten the idle tube. It is supposed to reach the area where the idle jet adjustment screw is, in one piece. Thanks for posting this video.

Your workbench is way, way too wobbly. It definitely needs more density, to be more massively built. In other words a lot heavier with cross bracing and zero bloody castors. Castors are just another annoying KZbin phenomenon. One wise guy screws castors on and then all the sheep 🐑 follow. Until bloody KZbin I had never seen castors on a workbench. The workbench is your anchor point for the majority of your woodworking. It should be heavy, solid and preferably fixed in position. It’s not a bloody bumper car to be wheeled around. Have you ever seen an anvil on castors? Of course you haven’t. Other than that the video was okay except you jumped and skipped a couple of steps. 😊
@lindseyacresfarm2 ай бұрын
lol calling out all my problems 🤣. The workbench I ended up with here is different than my original design. I actually didn’t want casters. I wanted to sit it flat on the ground and use the rocker wheels you can mount and pickup the table to roll it, for the very reason you gave. Then… I mis-measured and it was short by a few inches. So I went with casters to make up the height and with the idea in mind to build another on the future for woodworking, and relegate this to a general purpose workbench. I also plan to move soon’ish so my needs are going to change. As for missing steps that is me forgetting to hit record or running out of battery. I am getting better.

If you buy any brand. Use 3/8 self tapping sheet metal screws on the under side and insides of the joints to hold them together firmly. Cut swimming pool tube floatys in half and duck tape them along the top and side horizontal roof runs and vertical corners. This stops them rubbing through the tarp. Lay out the top frame and cover with the roof then use a roller to apply a good coat of UV TRAILOR ROOF SEALER TO THE TOP COVER. THIS WILL ADD TEN YEARS TO THE TOP ITSEL. I SECURED MY TARP WITH 2" pvc pipe halfs screwd on the runs and vertical end rails. Mine tarp is taught, sun proofed and rub proof. Its been doing fine for 4 years and seems like itll go another 4 no problem.

Has anyone removed the impeller guard at the y connector? This unit works great for everything but my planer. The longer slivers from the planer wrap around the "arms" of the guard and constantly clog the hose. As long as I don't suck up a screwdriver I don't think there is much risk. Downside I would guess is being "forced" to do an impeller upgrade if I damage the current one.

Agonized about posting this but, in the interests of jointers everywhere, I feel I must. This video should have been called "How to NOT set up a jointer". You started off checking your cutter head using the outfeed table as a reference..... and then you moved/shimmed the outfeed table. Just think about that for a moment. One of your tables might have had a slight dip in it but that, while not ideal, is not the cause of your troubles. It does take time, trial and error, to get your both tables coplanar. Use your outfeed table as a reference and then set everything else to be coplaner to that. 99 x out of 100, it should only be necessary to use shims on your infeed table. Lastly, (I might have missed it) you never mentioned or checked your blades. YT is full of videos showing how to properly set the height of your blades with the aid of magnets and a dial indicator if you dont want buy the knife setting jig. There are thousands of people around the world using jointers older and "worse" than yours that work flawlessly. Spend a bit of time on YT and you'll find lots of videos showing how to PROPERLY set your machine up. You will not regret it.
@ryankelly26055 ай бұрын
This person is right. I’ll add that there’s some benefit to shimming the outfeed rather than the infeed because the outfeed doesn’t move (raise / lower) in most uses, so you’re at a little less risk of your shims wearing or falling out during regular use. I have this model and my steps in order were: 1. Raise both beds above cutter head (so that you cutter head doesn’t interfere with step #2) 2. Shim outfeed to be coplanar with infeed (infeed as reference) 3. Lower outfeed, shim cutter head to be even with outfeed There are tons of nuances to getting those things done right, but the order works.
