I used to have a chanter when my high school had a pipes and drums band. It has been about 23 years. I might buy a chanter and try to relearn it.

Thank you. I am the piper (as pipe major of our band) and the drummer is in our band and she takes snare lessons from Blair Brown

FIRST….pipers do not play songs, they play tunes, always tunes…..as in Tunes of Glory, an old movie that deserves watching. ( Calling them tunes risks getting hit by lightening or a flying haggis.) SECOND…..lovely lasses, excellent playing. Astonishing to this ancient piper that grade 4 has risen to this level of competence. Grade 4 in my day would now probably be classed as grade 47.

Finely done! Outstanding TUNE and excellent execution. I’ve enjoyed and learned from watching your tutorials. I’m teaching a few students of various ages and abilities and have picked up some pointers from your videos. I’d love to chat with you sometime about how you started your band. You would need to purchase a practice chanter first. You can get one from Henderson Imports or Higgins Ltd. or Reel Pipes. Then you need a teacher. In-person lessons are your best options, with a qualified teacher. If you don't live near an instructor, you can try following some online instructors on KZbin. Neil Clark (Falkirk Piping) is very good. My channel has some beginner playlists with lessons. There are others who do online lessons as well.

@@bobpert4030 Oh I see. Yes, the chanter is just a means to practice fingering technique. Its sound is a far cry from the bagpipes. Indeed.

Would you say that the bagpipe scale goes from low G to high G, with an extra high A, or should we think of it as low A to high A, with an extra low G tagged on? I ask because it isn’t always clear to me what the intervals are.
