Another lovely video - what size and make is your suitcase on the rear rack ? It looks a perfect fit for the Brompton and easy to travel on trains, buses with.

It is a two wheels cabin size suitcase, which is hard to find nowadays. Most cabin size suitcases today have four wheels at the bottom, which are incompatible with the Brompton rear rack. If you don't insist on having a hard shell there might be more options.

The Camel Trail is flat, being an ex-railway line. You didn't mention that you left the Camel Trail quite soon and that the rest of the journey is rather hilly. 😊 It's great that you followed the back roads and avoided too much traffic. Thanks for the video. Lovely to see Cornwall again.

Sorry if I have misled anyone. I studied the map very hard to discover this bicycle "safe route" between Bodmin and Newquay, even though it is not flat at all.😄

Thanks for this very helpful video. I'll most likely use a Nano system if I ever convert to electric assistance. For the comparison between the VW Up, e-Up and Brompton Nano, I think that the contribution from pedalling might not have been included (unless the cars are also pedal assist or similar, like the cars in the Flintstones). I tried to find a Gelert Dragon backpack for kids, but could not. My search continues. I hadn't realised its importance for a successful installation ☺️.

I asked Nanoelectrics to fit it initially. Installation of the magnetic disk and the pedal sensor mount requires removal of the crankset which needs special tools. In this aspect, Swytch kits are better as they do not require crankset removal for installation. Once these two items are fixed, the rest of the nano kits installation could be handled by any normal person.

6:14 - I believe there's a mistake on your calculations (I also checked with ChatGPT just to be sure): if you have had your batteries for 5 years and you've been charging each one of them twice every three weeks, you've charged each one of them a total of 173 times over the past 5 years. Or I did not understand your calculations and there's some info that I missed...

Interesting. I bought my Nano kit just before lockdown. I went for the Oregon 4Ah battery because at the time there was box which fitted into the touring bag rear pocket. This box also would also take the Oregon 6Ah (I bought on Screwfix for a considerable discount). I also bought the click button version for the control which has worked perfectly but is no longer advertised as an option. The customer service I have found to be excellent. They are always ready to help with any questions you may have. Thank you for your video and keep videoing your trips. RayC P.S the Oregon batteries are still behaving like new.

👍 Made similar with a Swytch Kit. The down side is it gets expensive once you add a few batteries. However it is more flexible as it doesn’t rely on mounting the front bag 👍

Probably the most informative Nano video yet. One of the forgotten to mention items is the fact that as long as you keep the battery size below 100Whours you can have up to 20 batteries in your carry on luggage on most airlines. I am currently in the process of contacting Nano about supplying me a dual 18v battery system so that I may use two 5Ah (18v) batteries and carry a lot of power on commercial aircraft. I have recently purchased a Brompton electric in the US and could not ship it to my home in Canada as no single freight company would look at it...not UPS not FedEx not USPS....as it is a used system. Funny they make that distinction. I will have to drive it home. (to Canada) Phil

As I know, a Nano system works only for 36 V batteries, not 18 V as you said. Assuming 4 Ah capacity, a battery would amount to total energy equals 36*4=144 Wh. For battery rating below 160 Wh, according to IATA, one is allowed to carry two of them as hand carried luggage on your flight. Rules may even be stricter here in UK.

when 2 X 18 volts is combined in series it produces 36 volts. (I have a diploma in electronics engineering) 36 volt Bosch batteries are rare here in North America so using two 18volt in series is a workaround. I have been in contact with Nano and they do offer the kit in a special configuration to allow for 18 volt batteries (X2) in series for Bosch, Makita, and Dewalt. I think you'll find that most airlines allow 20 batteries as long as they are under 100Watt Hours, and you are right they only allow 2 if they are over 100 but less than 160. They also specify that permission must be obtained for the 160Watt limit. I am planning a trip to Italy shortly and have checked the rules for KLM which is the carrier we'll be flying. I routinely fly with a lot of Lithium tool batteries in my carry on (used in my work) and have extensive experience with security. (they are starting to figure out how to calculate watt hours)

Nano also do a 10ah battery kit based around the 36v batteries you get with other ebikes. I have a 2003 Brompton, converted in 2016 and have 2 x4ah Bosch and 10ah. After such time battery capacity has reduced but can get 8 to14 miles out of bosch and 26 to 30 miles from 10ah. New battery maybe would do 50 miles. Not done touring but have done extended day rides by taking all batteries. I have found you get more torque from 10ah battery. Nano kit is a less polished and less refined kit but does mean can be repaired by user. Have had a couple of copper strip failers early on but easy to fix myself. Also had a motor issue and Nano sorted me out with a repair which did not cost that much and was turned around quickly. Customer service is good.

@@jameswilliams3046 I use 4Ah 36V Bosch battery. One battery gives you 24 km range. If you bring replacement batteries with you then they will extend your range accordingly. I think this is one of the main advantage of the Nano over the official Brompton Electric since the official one doesn't allow battery replacement, i.e. no arbitrary mileage extension.
