Know why Keith Richards went open G? Backstage way back, Mick is listening to an opening act guitarist warm up and amazed at the sound. The guitarist is Ry Cooder. The story goes Mick encourages Keith to come listen. Keith is changed, composing and playing many of the Stones best hits in open G, even removing the 6th string from his guitars, being in the way of the root note on string 5. Ever wonder why many complain online Keith Richards is so hard to play (in standard tuning)? Yeah, that's why.

I know this is 9 years old but why do you have it tuned to FCF, most I have heard was GDG? Doesn't that limit you if playing with others?

Forgive my 101 question Nigel, but you refer to the 9th and 12th fret etc when playing the lick, but from what I can see, this is a fretless instrument, bar screws (?) in the neck on the middle string. Ideally I am after a 3/4 string CBG with standard frets. Do you make these and what are the merits of playing slide with and without frets. My current CBG is a fretless cheapie from Aldis that feedbacks very easily and I want to upgrade. But it is easy to fingerpick and bend notes similar to a guitar.
