Once the screens are made with the offline tags if i want to connect to a physical PLC is it necessary to change the path of the offline tags or only create a new online device shortcut? thanks

Is there a good way to check your connections without having to physically connect the devices? I'm currently in the design phase, but I don't have a PLC or HMI handy. Is there a way I can 'verify' each screen that I'm not aware of? I want to have as much cleaned up before I go on site (Customer purchased, I do not have access to either the PLC or HMI until I arrive). Thanks!

I like it. There are a few different ways to do communications between the RMC and PLC, but everyone uses the indirect data map to read data from the RMC. The indirect data map allows registers that may be scattered around in different axes and put them all in one place so the PLC can read all the status information with just one block. Without the indirect data map one would need to have a different MSG block to read from each axis which would be slower and consume connections and CPU time. This technique is called scatter/gather.

This is very useful. I have one query.. After using offline tags in SCADA development, Does this tags works when I want to take PLC and SCADA online? or it require to create new RSlinx server again?!! Thank you.
@jamescash78996 жыл бұрын
I do not have any experience connecting a SCADA server with a PLC over RSLinx. Or for that matter, SCADA experience at all. I do know...if you are using FactoryTalk as your development environment to create your SCADA interface, the path of your runtime application will be configured inside FactoryTalk's project explorer. In version 9.0 and earlier: expand the node "RSLinx Enterprise" and click "Communication Setup". This is where you will direct the FactoryTalk application runtime to look at the SCADA comm path to where the PLC is running the file you have set as your offline file. I do have a video on KZbin explaining how to set up a communications path to a PLC if you would like to view it the video can be found by visiting my KZbin channel.

@@jamescash7899 Ya I had a similar question: I'm developing an SE application (local station), while my co-worker is developing the PLC program for the system. We want to do all the tag addressing for the objects on the SE displays remotely, so I used your video here (thank you) to set the offline tag file path to point to a copy of my co-worker's PLC project file. I'm able to see all the tags from the PLC project file and set up the connections, but what happens when we "go live?" Is it as simple as just setting the online communication path to the PLC via Communication Setup in the project explorer?
@altabaie4 жыл бұрын
Similar question ... the offline path to a tag, using the method described in this video, will be something like {[COMM]CW_Valves[12].RcpLoaded}. Did you find/replace [COMM] with new "link" once the Rslinx network to the running PLC is established?
