The trick is to get as low as you can. Sure reaction time is a factor but if you’re close enough, you’ll barely need it. Notice some of the participates were in a low athlete squat like stance. They typically won.

We usually do the Camping Skills honors simultaneously during a club campout. I have the TLTs teach each one, but with an adult mentor to make sure the TLTs keep the kids on task. We take the entire weekend to do them. I've also done the first aid honors that way, but usually with adult instructors. Ranger and Voyagers do CPR with an actual certified instructor (ever other year), while the Guides teach Red Alert to the Friends, and the Companions do Red Alert II and Explorers do Basic Rescue. CPR wraps up in that one day, but the others need class time to finish up.

I used to do that in a spreadsheet, but every time I went to update it, I'd find myself saying "this ought to be in a database." I finally started working on one. I finished the backend, but the human interface looks like it was done by someone who's never done that before (which is absolutely true - it's awful looking). I had some cool queries I could do, like "who all in the club already has this honor" and "show me all the honors that this kid has earned, but has not yet been awarded. The super cool one was that if I entered a list of honors, it could tell me who's sash I had found after conference PBE, etc. Where I wanted to take it was to make it fill my shopping cart at AdventSource with everything I need for Investiture (and I even spoke to them about that). Then I got a new computer and had to set up the database server on it, and it resisted. So I've not touched it in about 3-4 years. That's plenty of time to forget how all the internals worked. 😂 I hope to resume work on it one of these days.

Once the Pathfinder gets their honor patch, do they need to keep their papers? In our club the Counselors keep the papers as proof the Pathfinders finished but I’m sure they’re discarded after the year is finished.

We used to camp on a farm that had a beaver pond on it. It was about a half mile hike to the dam, and it was huge (like 200 feet long, and 8 feet high in the middle). That was always an awesome thing to go see. There are a couple of mountains nearby that offer easy (ish) hikes to the top. Audubon has nature trails, and we've used those more than once. When I lived in Manassas, Virginia, we took them to the Manassas Battlefield and gave the talk Explorers used to have to read about what Ellen White wrote about it. That was super cool to actually see where all this happened. Most of the kids lived 20 miles away from there, so they'd never even visited it before. I would go there with my kids a couple of Sabbaths per month.

@PathfinderStrongChannelАй бұрын
NAD has an honor committee to approve new honors for the NAD and get sold on Advent Source Website. This committee makes sure honors meet certain criteria before they get approved. Here is the information to get an honor looked at for NAD. www.clubministries.org/wp-content/uploads/NEWPhilosopyScopeandSequenceProposedHonorSubmissionGuidelines2016-2.pdf

Love the idea of a festival! We usually have honor camps in our local clubs and districts and sometimes regions. Last camp from another region in south completed literacy, baking, orienteering, bible marking, christian drama, african lore, paper quiilling and many others. I am planning one for my region in Central Trinidad but I love the idea!

Thank you so much for sharing! I am so happy you'll be continuing as a director. You've been such an inspiration to me ever since I became club director in the middle of 2020. You gave me ideas and resources for that fully virtual year and beyond. You inspire me to constantly be improving things in our club each year. I'm looking forward to more of your videos! Tonight was our registration night for the new year and only 6 Pathfinders from four families showed up. I was feeling very discouraged because we had 20 Pathfinders last year, and I worried that people didn't enjoy the experience last year or at Camporee, but while I was watching this I started getting texts from our missing families sharing their reasons why they couldn't make it tonight but will be there next Tuesday. We'll still have a full club this year!

I have been in this position. It’s totally normal for club size to decrease coming off the high of camporee. I see this time and time again. I read this quote in a book about youth ministry once and it really stuck with me: “Don’t count the kids, make the kids count.” Whether it’s 6 or 20, Pathfinders is important work.

Thank you so much for sharing! My why as an area coordinator: to support and unify our directors with God’s strength, grace, and power so that they can, in turn, lead the youth closer to God and each other.

I'm so glad to see that you are back to your normal self. My church is very small and we don't have a Pathfinder Club but we do involve our few children in our church service. Like you they lead song service, act as Deacons and Deaconesses. Will continue to pray for you. Be strong, I believe that there is a special place in Heaven for those who work with children and youth.

Thank you! Even though I've worked in children's ministries for over ten years, I've never done children's story. (No one has asked me.) I'm kinda terrified of it! I really appreciate your example of a simple and very effective children's story. Getting our kids comfortable serving in church is essential, but it often feels like such a battle (with the church), and I love your examples of places kids can step in and serve. I'd like to get my adventurer club active in the church service this year.

“Those who have a 'why' to live, can bear with almost any how” Viktor Frank Before the camporee I made plans to meet you because I love your videos, I have always wanted to make pathfinders content, but then the camporee happened and caos came to almost every club . I have been praying and glad that you found your why. When I was talking to a friend about the camporee and re-living all the bad things, my conclusion was, 6 of my pathfinders were baptized (including my son). What else could I ask from a camporee? See you in Gillette in 5 years.

Great perspective! I think it's fitting that God sent a double rainbow. Do we focus on the storm or the beautiful promise He showed? Definitely a lesson for us all to focus on the positives & praise God for those beautiful souls that have made their commitment to the Lord, including your son despite the challenges! God is good!🙏

I am so happy that God revealed your purpose for being in pathfinders. It is so much work but the rewards are great. I've retired from Pathfinders and now I teach Juniors and Earliteen at my church. They are a challenge at times but every now and then one of them will say something and praise God, they were listening!! Yes we need to encourage and pray for each other because this age group is so important. They are making choices that will determine their future. I'm praying for you. You were so discouraged in the other video and I'm so glad that you are out of that frame of mind. Please pray for me as I teach Sabbath School. My desire is for them to see Jesus in me and give their life to Him. We serve a mighty God!
