Hi, I have Pentax K1mk2. Can I use this speedlite in manual mode?
@WestcottLightingКүн бұрын
The FJ80 II works with most cameras in manual mode, although we haven’t tested the Pentax K1 specifically; it very likely will.

Not (exactly) new, but thank you Westcott for popularizing this creative use case for masking mode. Godox has had Alt Mask for at least 6 years, and even the older Westcott strobes have masking mode built-in (as pointed out by Matt Hernandez in the video on your channel entitled “Easy Photo Compositing with the FJ400 Mask Function”). For the past 5 years, we've used the alt mask as a "multi-look" feature by pairing it with our camera's continuous low-speed shooting, allowing us to capture multiple looks with one button press by limiting the continuous shutter to our mask count. What is new is the 6 different groups/scenes and the ability to assign a light to *multiple groups/scenes. Godox AD600 only has a maximum of 4 groups (2, 3, or 4 scenes). The AD200 allows for a maximum of just two groups (equating to two scenes) through the use of custom function F5. You can only assign a light to one scene or ALL the scenes by turning off alt mask. You can also mix and match group counts across all of your lights. For instance, assigning an AD200 to group 1 only and assigning two *separate AD600s on a 4-group mask assigned to scene 1 and 3 would yield: AD600a, AD200, AD600b, AD200. Adding a 3-group scene to the mix would make it less predictable, but is also doable. With some creativity and planning, you could possibly replicate nearly every look in this video using your current gear, provided you have enough lights. However, the Westcott touchscreen and ability to assign lights to multiple groups does make it easier.

Is the ability to assign a light to fire in more than one sequence exclusive to the FJ400II and FJ800? I just switched to Westcott and purchased quite a few FJ400s (version one) and FJ200s a few months ago and it seems that each light is limited to only one sequence.
@WestcottLighting2 күн бұрын
Yes, Creative Mask's multi-sequence firing is only on the FJ400 II and FJ800. We’re currently exploring the possibility of bringing Creative Mask to other FJ Wireless flashes via the mobile app.

@ that would be outstanding! Thank you.

When updating the firmware on Westcott FJ400 II strobes, do I need to update each strobe individually, or will updating one apply to all?
@WestcottLighting2 күн бұрын
You would need to transfer the new .bin file to all of your FJ400 II Strobes.

Nice tutorial. To confirm, is the shutter release being pressed six individual times at the discretion of the shooter or is it a six frame burst? Also, is there any audible tone letting the shooter know at the end of a sequence and time to reposition the subject?
@WestcottLighting2 күн бұрын
Yes, the shutter is pressed for as many frames that you set in the strobe (in this case, 6 times). Great tip on the audible tone! We'll bring it to our team for a potential future update.

Very professional of you to share so much of the information relating to light positioning, camera settings, types of modifiers. So often, these types of video simply show the results without the pertinent information relating to setting and positioning. Paying it forward! Many, many thanks. I'm going attend your seminars simple because of your decision to share. thanks.

Great video and thank you for the set-ups using speedlights. I like the fact that you wanted to use small portable kit. Now, I ask, could you have gotten the same light using your flash? You stated that the flash is about 75 to 80 Joules, so you could have used it around half power if it was 75 Joules; because you used a 200 Joules at around 1/8 power which was about 25 Joules. Just checking so I will know for the future.
