Extraordinary is right. This is not the Mass that most Catholics know. It's a nice time piece, but has little meaningful participation from the laity. It's a time piece, an artifact from a bygone era. It's not coming back people.

The very structure of the Mass including the Tridentine Mass presupposes a congregation or at least servers.
@MarkEliasGrant3 ай бұрын
@@nicholasholiday941 Yet people here robustly defend the practice of private Masses. The entire practice is absurd. We're not going back to 1960. What's done is done.

@@MarkEliasGrant Angels are present in every mass. Especially masses offered in prayer, even without a congregation. There's a reason in the Missal of St. Pope John XXIII the term Private Mass is not used. Pope Paul VI also wrote in his encyclical Mysterium fidei (1965) that "even if a priest celebrates it privately" a Mass is not private but "an act of Christ and of the Church".
@MarkEliasGrant2 ай бұрын
@@setonix9151 Mass is not a private affair. Not any longer. It has returned to the state of the early Church in which those attending are participating, and it is a rare exception that anyone should have a "private Mass". Nope. No longer.
@setonix91512 ай бұрын
@@MarkEliasGrant I mean you are just out right stating Nope. No longer, without you know actually telling reasons why. Masses celebrated in homes are still a thing. It still is a thing in the new rite. Under GIRM 252+ as Missa cuius unus tantum minister participat. (Mass in which only one server participates) Mass is still prayed for the faithful departed or votive masses for let's say peace. The practice has existed atleast since the 6th century (sources within Dialogues of St. Pope Gregory the Great) It was practiced by the Saints for over 1000 years and it is still practice now despite your protestations

I enjoyed seeing the traditional mess again. When I was in grammar school and high school, that’s all I ever had was traditional mass. I hate that I can too. As far as I’m concerned, I didn’t like it when they started having guitar mass and it has gone downhill ever since. I wish every church has at least one traditional mass every Sunday, if not every day. I didn’t go to church for 40 years because of that I come to although I am back now, but I still would rather have the traditional mass.

So beautiful, but so pitiful that there is no server/acolyte/layman to assist in this Holy Mass. THiS is now what the Mass of all time has been relegated to…a humble and holy priest, all by himself, offering the Holy Sacrifice with NO ONE assisting. Beautiful and utterly pitiful at the same time. The Mass is now in the catacombs AGAIN!

If forced..yes..but, I think your impression is that a private low mass has to have an acolyte/altar server/boy..a priest can and should do a missa solitaria (low mass without server) at least once a day..if not more..as many as possible as not to break canon law..and IMHO..it should be spaced out so as the priest to not become inebriated, but I feel the medieval model of a priest being able to say as many masses as possible (within reason and being moderate) is the best way to go..more masses, more graces for the Church and world, the better..but if a priest were to get 10 different stipends for 10 different mass intentions, he should be able to say them all within one day..again IMHO 😊..and more than likely, they would all be missa solitaria +++God bless Mary protect +++

Why are the servers wearing shoulder capes the whole time? Is it freezing cold in the church or something?
@MrMercuryW Жыл бұрын
It's called a pellegrina, it's a clerical vestment that may not be the custom in some places, it is more common for bishops to wear them, though lesser ranking clerics and lay altar servers can wear it as well, usually in the context of a ceremony or in solemn feast days.
@QuinnHuston-f2c Жыл бұрын
The servers are wearing mozzettas, not because it is cold, but rather because it is a symbol of the vows they have professed. Those black shoulder capes (mozzettas) are a symbol of the burden of the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity and obedience which they profess as religious.

From Pope Benedict XVl to the SSPX the Mass is not about the priest, it is not about the people, It is about Jesus Christ, the Mass is a Divine act and not a human act. This video shows the glory and splendor of Christ's Sacrifice. Vatican ll erred when it remade the Mass as being all about the people. Christ's sacrifice is very, very little spoken about when it comes to Holy Mass. Thus a great loss of faith. May God and Our Lady who crushed the head of the serpent, intervene in Francis plot to eliminate Quo Primum of St. Pope Pius V.

What responses are required of the congregation?
@henrylansing97342 жыл бұрын
Most of the responses said during the introductory rite is said by the servers only, e.g. the Confiteor and the Kyrie. Throughout the Mass, the priest will turn momentarily to the congregation and say, "Dominus vobiscum" (the Lord be with you), to which everyone responds with "et cum spiritu tuo" (and with your spirit). After he says "oremus," he will say a prayer at which it will be clear when to say "amen." There's also "Gloria tibi, Domine" (glory to you, Lord), "habemus ad Donimum" and "dignum et justum est" ("we lift them up to the Lord" and "it is right and just"), and "Deo gratias" (thanks be to God). It is actually much simpler than it may seem. If you have the opportunity to attend a Latin Mass you definitely should!
