Awesome job! WV native here - the guy in the costume was Mothman which is our local cryptid. There is a statue of him in Point Pleasant, WV and they made a movie starring Richard Gere.

Thank you for the video! This was my first attempt at a 100miler and felt gutted when they canceled it. I was in Damascus early Friday and once I saw the town I was pretty sure it wouldn’t happen. I was too bummed to try and run so we booked it back home! Appreciate see the trail and the beauty of it!
@BouncingSolesАй бұрын
Thanks for the kind words. Part of the intention of the video was to show the status of the trail and they made the right decision to cancel the race.
@joekern4474Ай бұрын
Cool video. It was cool to see you get a run in. We also got a shorter tun in late Friday night. Just had to make the best. The road trip with your pops is the real prize.
@BouncingSolesАй бұрын
Thanks Joe. The conditions after the storm passed were beautiful. We did not go into Damascus, which was hit harder. The tree crews locked us out from just 2-3 miles away from our cars and were not going to listen to us. I get that this is in poor taste to do, but after driving 10 hours and being stuck in a hotel with no power there was nothing left to do.

@alexball4945Ай бұрын
Wrong on so many levels. Absolute disregard to safety. If you would’ve gotten hurt and needed rescuing, you would’ve taken away resources from the people who really needed it. This was incredibly irresponsible. The town of Damascus is in shambles and all you could think about was making it worth your while since the race was canceled. The yetis and the ultra community is way more about caring for each other and not about getting a “finish”.
@BouncingSolesАй бұрын
There was no part that I was in danger, if I was I would have turned around. You realize people were using the trail, I passed 10+ people on the trail that day doing the same thing we were doing, most of them runners. There was also a disconnect from information if the trail was even closed. From my last point I received information it was only Damascus that was mostly affected. That's where we turned around.
@alexball4945Ай бұрын
@@BouncingSoles you mean to tell me when you saw trees on trestles that you weren’t in danger?!? How did you know it was safe? Are you a structural engineer? In your video your buddy also slipped and fell on the leafs, what if he or you broke something then? Then you’d be taking resources away from the real issues. Danger may not have been 100% apparent but it lurked. What if a tree shifted with you under it while climbing through. The other people on the portions of the trail that were closed were wrong too. You just chose to post it where we could all see it. All I see here is selfishness.
@allisonsmith3889Ай бұрын
Did you seriously run past workers who were telling you to stop? What were you thinking? The part of the trail you ran on was CLOSED. You even bragged to 2 other Yeti’s that you ran around workers. What the hell.
@BouncingSolesАй бұрын
No, they were the ones that told us there were workers ahead. We were on the trail before any workers had closed it, thus blocking us from returning to our cars/hotels. There was also no signs the trail was closed. Even at the trailhead it was still open when we got back, which you can see in the video.
@allisonsmith3889Ай бұрын
@@BouncingSoles it was still closed. The fact that you had to climb over trees and stuff means it was compromised. There doesn’t need to be a sign for everyone to know it was closed and dangerous. And no, they didn’t tell you about the workers because they were in Abingdon and didn’t SEE the workers as they didn’t try to run on the closed trail. The beginning of your video shows the blockade at trestle 1. 🤦🏻♀️
@travisandsarahault2895Ай бұрын
@@allisonsmith3889why are you here? Only way to know if the trail is closed, is if there is signage. Not to mention Jason Green said they were going to be out there clearing the trail Friday, so there is a reasonable belief there wouldn’t be trees down. Just relax

Well done and great recap. Was way too hot and humid for September, and the streams were disappointingly dry. Definitely added challenge to an already challenging race.
@BouncingSoles2 ай бұрын
It was brutal. I normally don't take my S-caps, but I ate all of them in the race (maybe 3 or 4). The streams were dry, actually 2 points I took water last year looked so gross I skipped over them. I should have mentioned that in the video. That should also be a caution to future runners.
