Best performance of this serenade I have heared until now, and I have heard very many . .. And the winds are more in tune as those of the Berliner Philharmoniker under the direction of Claudio Abbado.

Thank you very much for such kind, humbling comment.

For me the best recording of the both serenades are the recording with Kertesz.thats heaven!!

This is a very interesting piece in that it is not scored for violins or saxophones. At the time Johannes Brahms composed it he was going through a rather strange phase during which he was against sax and violins in the concert hall.
@margaretsacht Жыл бұрын
There are no saxophones in any work of Brahms because they had not yet been invented, I believe.

@@margaretsacht Dearest Margaret. It's a joke. Sex and violence in the concert hall. If you are not a native English-speaker, I see how you might not understand the humor. I am a retired symphony orchestra musician, and this was a very popular joke among my associates. 😊❤
@margaretsacht Жыл бұрын
@@notmyworld44 oh sorry!! Of course. Violins not violence. I thought you were seriously anachronistic. (And I am a native speaker as well as a professional violinist and violist)

Your A and E string are out of tune you can listen when you have doble stops at 1:00. Thats because your tuning at the beggining is not good, you shouldn't tune above tremolo. The ear does not have accuarate notion of correct pitch when you play fast, repeated notes. There's a Zukerman masterclass on this subjet. Other than that, great playing!

At 1:01, I can very faintly (but audibly nonetheless) here someone say something like "aw, shoot!" followed by something else. Is this some sort of error in the audio, or am I just hearing things...?

Hello and thanks for the comment. I think that the tv station that recorded this concert somehow mixed the sound with some other program. Gives some special effects from time to time.

OH MY LORD... This is a clinic on sheer balance.
@StuartSimon4 жыл бұрын
Are you saying that because you think that these people know a thing or two about balancing strings and winds when you have no violins? The orchestra cannot sit in their conventional positions, and I was very interested in how they sit for this piece in particular.
@bryantyoung71974 жыл бұрын
@@StuartSimon No. But rather from an acoustical perspective. The principal parts aren't overwhelming the second and third parts. They're blending rather well compared to some other ensembles that I've listened to on this particular medium Although I'll admit I personally prefer if it had richer bass.:)

There is something either missing or screwed up in this performance. I see two flutists as well as 2 of other wind instruments, but toward the end I can clearly hear a piccolo------but neither flutist is playing a piccolo. Is the piccolo being played by an invisible musician or off to the side or what? A flute just does not make those kinds of sounds yet there is no visible musician playing a piccolo!???
@Petrolejum5 жыл бұрын
Hello, thanks for the comment. There is a third person playing piccolo, and you can see her in certain moments, behind the clarinets. I guess you could not see her right away because you were enchanted by the beauty of clarinet players. Or size. All the best!

A simple but lovely concerto and not easy to play, especially that last movement. Bravo!
