I wasn’t sure if I should get the 18v or the 36v but it seems like 18v will be more than adequate for me. Thank you for the video.

I think a second battery is more helpful than the voltage. It has more than enough power for framing. Cheers!

T-9 or Boeshield are 2 of the best lubricants for anything woodworking. Cleaning, lubricating machines, parts & cast iron.

I have never tried T-9 / Boeshield. Despite being in the aviation industry. Thank you for the suggestion!

I'd get a non-silicone dry lube. If silicone gets on the wood, it could possibly contaminate it, which can cause problems with finishing (paint, varnish, etc).
@FabricatorsFieldGuide
@FabricatorsFieldGuide Ай бұрын
That is one down side for silicone. Don't want "fish eyes". Thank you for the input!

When I first discovered Festool products and their pricing, I had questions too. I also could think of other ways to accomplish a task, especially joinery, without using a Domino. However, after using a Domino (and other Festool products) I never looked back. Sometimes it's the journey of making and not just the end result. I don't consider myself a tool snob but I do like the feel of using a quality product and the Domino does that in spades. If I ruin the joinery of a project, that's on me. I can't blame the tool. Festool is not a requirement to be a great woodworker but it sure shortens the curve and makes the journey of trying to become one a lot more enjoyable. If you can't tell the difference when using Festool, then maybe it's not for you. But I think your recommendation would be more valid if not based solely on price and the alternatives to what that same amount of money would buy.

I have had about thirty-five years of woodworking experience, I think that qualifies me to have an opinion on tools.

Certainly, I wouldn't recommend a domino for someone still buying basic tools like a tablesaw and sander. Get those basic tools first. But if you've already got the basic tools down, I'd strongly recommend it if you have the money. Basically, a domino will solve almost all of your joinery needs, and unless you're just making flat boards with your woodworking, you're always going to need joinery. And it's a dream to use, and allows you to easily make joints with great precision and structural strength. You can certainly do woodworking without a domino, but it definitely makes things easier.

I can't justify the expense when you can achieve the same thing with loose tenons and a router

I have the festool and build fuirniture which I sell through a art gallery. The festool is super fast and very accurate. yes you can create loose tenons and a router but it will eat up a lot of time.

I tried everything of that. But when i get the domino everything else is like toys. The domino is so easy to use and fast, the biscuit cant do the same sorry.

Hello, Interesting take on the basics here. ONE thing to ALWAYS consider is (IF) this is a GIFT type deal or one that is being DONE due to On the Fly ( NEED it NOW ) Emergency expense. What ( I ) personally have seen through many decades ( PLUS )? Price, Sales, and Discontinued items ( TEND to ) Confuse the TRUE Value or Benefit so many use as EXCUSES to ( DO the Right Thing ) the First time - Every Time ( Right or Wrong ) Its the Facts that prove the PRICE can be more Damaging overall. Example: Was asked by a friend of a friend who was Trying to Help out another with there own ( 5 Minute Project ). What originally was stated as Advice needed was ( REALLY ) a Bring your tools over and Do it for them DEAL Hidden in the mix. Today many ads both on the internet and big box stores are trying to SWAY or Lure un-Informed shoppers for every single penny out there. Cash Back Rewards, a certain % taken off (IF) It fits into the bags , to Black Friday type ( Once a YEAR ) Blow Out * Rock Bottom Prices * used to draw them into there place of business too. My Advice / Comments have always tried to be: * The VOICE of REASON * What truly Makes CENTS while Neither Breaking the bank or merely buying the Cheapest thing being offered still ? In a Pinch * WE * all are guilty of Buying what ever a Store might have to complete projects that have gone sideways in a heartbeat. NOW back to the Story about the Two Friends who NO longer speak to each after there ( MAJOR ) Mis-Communication Process unfolded. Like the saying itself: " In the End - It All Goes Back to the B E G I N N I N G " This too was a Disaster ready to unfold the very second the other person answered the phone. Hey, You know anything about * Such and Such * ??? This is Al the guy my buddy said to call you up and pick your brain for some Friendly information.. So , the story goes a Saturday morning MEET up was to take place. What did the Guy in the know bring with him ? A Leatherman, along with a Six pack of beer. Figured they could bond over a couple of cold ones once this 5 minute project was truly done. Well I could go on and say it went great. NOT even close. The Original guy knew next to nothing. The only tools that were there was a Rusty old pair of pliers and tape measure his mother had left there some time before. Does anything take only 5 minutes ?? In the world I live in * NO * is the only answer that goes with that question. They landed up at the local hardware store. the guy in the know said hey this is your chance to Get a real tool set. They had some off the wall brands at low prices along with a few nicer items all packaged into Complete boxes for easy carrying and storage as well. be it 5 bucks, 50 bucks, 100 bucks or 200 and more for a decent set of wrenches, a Utility knife, a Tape measure and hammer with a pliers and some SAE and Metric sockets 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" too. BUYING SHEAP means they most likely will NOT last very long and that money will never come back no matter how many friends of friends you knew when it all began. This guy was not willing to spend more then 10 bucks to get what was needed on this day. expecting the other guy in the know to do not only all the work butt also provide the tools needed and YES , Supplies he did not have either. YOUR WELCOME in advance. My Advice for tool buying 101. Be Realistic. Its better to get a few good tools that will last. then get the cheapest junk out there all at once to regret paying any attention to them when the FAIL rate goes up up up ....

This looks great! How many days did it take you to build the steel structure? What are the dimensions? I am developing plans for a self-built (partly :) Quonset home and this is the style I think is best suited, with the straight side walls. Cheers!

Thank you! It took me several weeks to put it together by myself. That wasn't full time either. It is hundreds of bolts to put thru and line up you will need an alinement tool (looks like a spike), and an impact driver. It's not hard to do just takes awhile, putting up each ring in half sections. It is 24' x 30'. You have to water seal the base connector and order it undrilled. I will be doing more videos on it soon.
