12:08 yep, for $10,000 they rip you off by not supplying a desktop charger. I too would be very disappointed. Surprised you even got a battery with it. Next year the M12 will be just a camera, no battery, no neck strap and no usb cable. They will even offer the cardboard board as an accessory. These companies just disgust me. Before anyone says, I am just jealous. Well, I do own Leica cameras and this move by them and other manufacturers to limit accessories supplied is disgusting.

I bought a LV bag kislux years ago. I took it to the LV store in my town last week to have it repaired. The store clerk inspected my bag and immediately told me that the bag was of good quality. She pulled a current bag out of inventory and compared the tags and I found zero differences

Nice video…very informative. I am looking to buy a M11 glossy paint. Do you know if the protective film you put on the camera will damage the glossy paint on the body? One day when you remove protective film, it will remove the gloss on the paint.

On the topic of lenses with a soul, what are your thoughts on a 35 APO Summicron - M? That lens is damn near perfect on paper but does it lack soul? Also your already at 750 subs! Keep cooking!
@Chrisncameras
@Chrisncameras Ай бұрын
The 35 APO Summicron-M is an incredible lens, but for its size, I’d rather have more speed than clinical perfection. At that price point, the regular Summicron ASPH offers similar performance and feels like a better deal. To be honest, I don’t think the APO has much soul. With so much perfection, it reminds me of any modern Canon or Sony lens-known mainly for being sharp. Sometimes, the imperfections in older lenses or their remakes inspire more creativity through their unique rendering. I still can’t believe I’m already at 750 subs-it’s such an amazing holiday gift! Thanks so much for the support, and I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and New Year!

I love Minolta. I shoot an xd-11 mainly and I love Minolta glass. For their slrs they made a 45 f2 that is so small and soooooooo nice

Minolta doesn’t exist anymore. To make a long story short, they became Sony cameras. One of the last cameras they made is arguably the highest spec film camera EVER made. It has the fastest shutter speed out of any camera EVER even digital
@mstrshkbrnnn1999
@mstrshkbrnnn1999 Ай бұрын
Also, the xd-11 was the first camera to have a shutter priority mode. It had a manual mode, aperture priority mode, shutter priority, and later models could function in a program mode. The shutter was electronic, but could also be actuated mechanically if the batteries died. It was such a great body leica used it as the basis for their r series slr cameras
@Chrisncameras
@Chrisncameras Ай бұрын
Wow, that’s awesome, Minolta really left an incredible legacy! In my opinion, 40-45mm is the perfect everyday focal length-it’s so versatile and keeps things simple while still being creative. I love how much innovation Minolta brought to the table, like the shutter priority mode on the XD-11 and that insane shutter speed you mentioned, such a cool piece of history. It’s no surprise Leica used their designs for the R series. My favorite Minolta is the TC-1, its such an incredible little camera. Probably one of my biggest photographic regrets was selling it! Thanks for sharing all this, it’s always great to connect with another Minolta fan! Merry Christmas, and I hope you’re having a great holiday season! 🎄

I don’t think it’s a quality control issue but the way it’s build, no other Leica lenses have this ‘’issue’’.

@Chrisncameras Ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment, and Merry Christmas! 🎄 I’ve read online and seen in other videos that some people have sent their lenses back to Leica and either received them fully fixed or got new copies with the issue resolved. So, it might actually be a quality control or manufacturing issue as you mentioned. Either way, it’s definitely something Leica should address! Thanks for sharing your thoughts, and I hope you have a great holiday season!

Thanks Chris. Subscribed. I like your quiet style. I use Glass.photo to share my pictures. Paid site but nicely laid out. I have the Voigtlander 40mm F1.4 but I have been considering this Minolta as well. I want to use 40mm for my vintage look focal length. Keeps it less confusing for me. I have an M11-P and an M11M and am considering an M-A. I only use Voigtlander glass. Your video was the last one I need for my decision - ordering a Rokkor on e-bay. Thanks!

Thanks so much for subscribing! I really appreciate it. I haven’t heard of Glass Photo before, but thanks for the recommendation-I’ll definitely check it out! The Voigtlander 40mm f/1.4 is a fantastic lens, but I think you’re going to love the Minolta Rokkor for that vintage Leica vibe. Sticking with 40mm as your focal length is such a great choice-it’s the perfect everyday option and makes deciding between 35mm and 50mm so much simpler. Your setup with the M11-P and M11 Monochrom sounds incredible, and adding an M-A would be perfect for some film fun. I’m so glad I could help with your choice! Enjoy the Rokkor when it arrives, and let me know how it works out for you!

@@Chrisncameras I have a number of Voigtlander lenses from 21mm to 90mm. Most of them are modern and more clinical. The biggest problem is finding everyday inspiration and places to shoot. I am in Canada and now that the cold and dark winter has started, getting out is more difficult.

A 50mm f/1.4 MC Rokkor was my first vintage lens. It was cheap, battered and badly scratched, but still produced very beautiful images. I then tried many brands, Pentax, Carl Zeiss Jena, Industar, Olympus and many more, but the few Minolta I have are still special. They have a very particular way to render bright scenes and they work beautifully with cheap adapters that let light leak. Most of them are really affordable and enough. Expensive gear is a burden, making us feel that we have to produced something of great quality. Cheap gear gives us freedom, we can experiment, just have fun, use it in any place, any weather.

Thanks for sharing your journey! Starting with a 50mm f/1.4 MC Rokkor sounds like a fantastic introduction to vintage lenses. Even battered, it’s amazing how Minolta lenses still deliver that special touch. I completely agree, expensive gear can feel like a burden sometimes, while affordable gear lets us experiment, have fun, and just enjoy photography for what it is. That freedom is what makes it so rewarding. Thanks so much for watching and sharing your thoughts, it really means a lot!

I love my Leica M3. I use it almost weekly now, as retired! I bought it new, 57 years ago! What does this overpriced new model do? I have never needed more! Stunning? Leica uses water based paints, for black paint models! My Spotmatic black, Canon Ae-1 black, both have minimal wear! I used them professionaly. I bought a press photographer's Nikon F3 black that has dents, scratched, but the black paint, basically good! Here this model approx C$ 11,000 no lens or strap! Simply insane! True film is a daily cost but howmany rools in C$11,000?Any well looked after older Leica-M is more than sufficient.

Jason, thank you for the support and comment! That’s amazing and a true testament to just how well these German cameras are built. If people take care of their things, they really can last a lifetime, if not more! I agree, this new camera is definitely overpriced as are most nice things in life, it seems, haha! And I definitely agree, any film Leica with some fresh film is more than enough for a good time. Hope you’re enjoying your retirement and making even more memories with that Leica M3!
