For a different listening experience, I would like to recommend this performance by the Netherlands Bach Society with harpsichordist Richard Egarr. It features a significantly smaller ensemble, as was common in Bach's time, and is performed on instruments from the Baroque period. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gnnNk4WDfq6bq68si=Ev4s-wac0BZON74D

I stared at his hands for the entire cadenza and I still can’t quite believe he played the whole thing.

exactly how Mahler described conducting.. Richter is a great representative of Bach's work. What a blessing he was.

When I hear Glen Gould play Bach, I hear Gould. When I hear Karl Richter, I see Bach nodding his approval.

Musicologists out there, at 3:06 you can see exactly where Bach invents thrash metal.

Musicians like him difficult to find! Nowadays everyone is trying to copy and perform the same. I love the difference that musicians put into the music! 🎶

The beginning reminds me of a Scratch sound effect called "Classical Piano". This might be connected to the origin of the sound.

HELP that’s definitely not harpsichord technique 💀💀 bro is slapping the keys like that harpsichord is a Steinway like bffr
Is a pitty that when the Orchestra is playing you almost can not hear that pianothing, except in the clear and brilliant solos.

How he plays on precisely w/o glitch whilst turning the page over with his right hand, even with an extra flourish ... I guess he could play these simple toons in his sleep 🙂 Awe-inspiring, esp. the solo which is mind-boggling hand-eye co-ordination (not sure he even needed to look at the keys)

Just lovely to hear my old friend from 30 years back when I first heard this piece! Could anyone explain what the 3:14 to 3:24 type of music is called - is there any specific music term or terminology? Thanks! 🙂

Sounds the harpsichord played by Lurch the butler on the old Addams' Family TV show from the 60s. It's an ugly sounding Pleyel, which was the result of mating a piano and a harpsichord. Fortunately, the offspring were sterile and the species died out decades ago.

Bravo! Too many modern interpretations destroy this cadenza with too much damn romantic rubato and rallentando. Thanks again Karl, for channeling JSB's original intent👏🏻🫶🏻👌🏻🙏🏼
