Jimmy DID change his behaviour. He got a job in the mail room, he worked his ASS off to pass the bar exam, worked night and day to build his practice. Sure he took a shortcut here and there, (and I don’t blame him, considering his brother shut down any legitimate way for him to succeed) but they ultimately harmed no one. Only when he found out that his brother, the person he wanted to prove himself to, deliberately sabotaged him, does he fall back into his old ways and TRULY start hurting people. Everything from this point onwards is on Chuck.

@ureallysuckglobes6 күн бұрын
Nothing “gaslighting” about it. Over and over, Jimmy fucks people over, feels bad, then fucks them or someone else over again. Remorse is useless and actually pretty insulting if you refuse to learn from it.
@gobogoo23296 күн бұрын
@@ureallysuckglobes yeah this is not gaslighting. ironically the stunt jimmy pulled actually was though, making everyone in that courtroom think chuck was some crazy old guy lashing out at his brother (although i do think chuck was wrong for trying to disbar jimmy) is like a picture perfect example of gaslighting because everything chuck said was quite literally true.

I think Chuck said that line because he knew his time was almost over and he didn't want Jimmy to feel super bad after he is gone. So, he said something that hopefully makes Jimmy hate him a little bit so that Jimmy wouldn't feel so sorry after Chuck is dead. Chuck cared about him so much but at the same time he felt so jealous in his entire life.

What are your thoughts on Chuck McGill as a person in "Better Call Saul"? He’s an asshole. He may have had a different perspective than anyone else in the show since he knew Jimmy his whole life, but he loved the law more than his own brother and even though most people would commend Jimmy for working in the mail room while finishing his bachelor’s degree, getting his law degree, and passing the bar exam, Chuck did everything in his power to stop Jimmy from succeeding. He was the voice of opposition to Jimmy becoming an associate of his law firm and he didn’t even have the balls to tell Jimmy about it so he blamed it on Howard. Kim did a better job of explaining everything during Jimmy’s disciplinary hearing, but to summarize what she said, Jimmy was referred to as “Charlie Hustle” because of his work ethic, got his law degree and passed the bar without telling anyone at the firm including his brother, spent every day getting Chuck his favorite newspapers, food, and helping him adjust to life with his illness while Chuck’s animosity towards Jimmy kept growing. Jimmy found the evidence that the seniors were being cheated and wanted nothing more than to work with his brother on the case, but Chuck poached the case from him and gave it to the firm and did everything he could to prevent Jimmy from working with them on it. Jimmy did go through a lot of trouble to make Chuck look like an idiot at the hearing so that Kim could get her case back, but it’s not like Chuck didn’t have it coming and he was wiling to betray his only living relative because he was jealous of how charming Jimmy was. He tried to get him disbarred for life and even after everything that happened, Jimmy came to him to try to patch things up, and Chuck said the nastiest thing a brother could say to another brother before he took his own life. Jimmy may have been unethical in how he practiced the law, especially in comparison to Chuck, but he was a much better brother and probably wouldn’t have turned into Saul Goodman if his brother wasn’t such an asshole.

Chuck is without a doubt an asshole and has no interest in helping him get better (as far as I’m concerned) but damn it, he has a point. But at the same time I’m far from on the “Chuck was right” camp, which would imply that he had every right to gaslight Jimmy
@tarnw33012 ай бұрын
Jimmy was a horrible backstabbing brother. He gaslighted his mentally ill brother, humiliated him in front of his associates and then pretty much took advantage of how he gaslighted his brother to sunk his brother's reputation further. Jimmy loved his brother, but that love would never protect Chuck from Slippin' Jimmy.

the lighting in this scene is masterful. Jimmy enters and is drowning in shadows as he professes his regret and Chuck's own face in rebuttal is well lit, as a voice of reason. But as he continues, he steps further and further into this darker and darker shadow. Meanwhile Jimmy's own face loses shadow and lights up more and more, not realizing that Chuck is actually laying into him. And finally, when Chuck goes "I dont want to hurt your feelings" they both become covered by the shadow again: Chuck as he drops one final painful bomb on Jimmy; and Jimmy as he finally realizes what's going on. Then Chuck steps back into normal light, like nothing happened; and Jimmy walks back out into a shadow. He turns one last time in disbelief, a little glimmer of light that maybe Chuck hasn't moved on, but as Chuck clears his throat in that normal light Jimmy turns back to the darkness.

I don't care what anyone says . This is what really made Saul Goodman . Nothing worst than you trying your best and looking after a handicap brother (which is what chuck was for a long time ) and they say it meant nothing ...I'm surprised Jimmy never called Nacho to deal with it .
