I don't have monofiliment or crimp beads, so I've used beading thread ran through 2 to 3 times through all beads, then knotting half way down each side from the bobbin. We shall see how long it lasts. lol.
@thelaceowl41783 жыл бұрын
That is how I used to do mine. I think it depends how you handle the bobbins. I know when I am at full speed I can jolt them a lot

@@thelaceowl4178 Eventually I will buy larger bobbins to spangle and spangle with wire, but I ended up getting "travel length" bobbins instead of the ones I ordered. I will try these out for a bit, then gradually replace them. I love your tutorials. Hopefully get the same books so I can play catch up on your vids with the correct patterns.

This was very useful but I wonder if you meant to stop coming back through one at the edge. You did it for the first few and mentioned the green would stay at the edge but then you changed method. Could you explain about this please.
@thelaceowl41783 жыл бұрын
I always go one way through the edge, but after you have about half the pairs going forwards and back, i.e using a pair of workers, you start getting some rucks in the lace and it starts to look untidy so at that point I just put it back through a couple of pairs to tie it down. Maybe I need to redo that one at some stage and make it clearer.
@kittybaxter22283 жыл бұрын
@@thelaceowl4178 Thank you. The finished result was very neat. I was able to come back through one all the way down as I had fewer pairs.

I’m not sure if you’ve already produced video for adding thread when bobbin runs out - I’ll look but I’d appreciate seeing your version. Question: is the cross twist direction universally done the same? I swear I’ve seen cross and twist done differently-meaning right to left or left to right? Hope I’m making sense. Really like your tutorials.
@thelaceowl41783 жыл бұрын
Hi Annie. Yes I have done a joining two threads together video this is the url kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKCcpmNqhJ6GjKc Ok the time we cross left over right is the first part of every stitch; when we are counting 2 over 3 before we go 2 and 4 over 1 and 3. so that is the left over right. When we are twisting their legs in and out of fans, or when we first start or at the end of a row that is always right over left. Are those maybe the two you are thinking of??

Good morning miss Sandra. I am so happy to see you in another video. I am working with another blind lady who has been bobbin lacing since 1976. We just finished working on spiders and I think this fan with scallops is what we're doing next. My roller pillow is on back-order but I'm managing to struggle along with the cookie pillow that came in the kit I bought from Snowgoose Lace. I love working with sine 40/2 linen thread. I'm a thread crocheter so I'm used to the no stretch factor. So far we've done, Princess lace, diamonds, and spiders, and of course wink-a-pin. The size 20 thread that came in with the kit I just added to my tatting thread stash.

Good morning Sandra. Thank you for making such detailed videos. I am a blind crafter. I knit, crochet, and shuttle tat. I hope to add spinning and real lace making. I feel if I had the bobbins and pillow I could follow along with you. Have you ever taught someone who was blind? The card stock used for patterns is thick enough to handle a tracing wheel.. Making the lines raised would be easy to feel. Working with fine threads won't be a problem since the bobbins are what is being handled. I love the thought of spangled bobbins with pretty charms.
@thelaceowl41784 жыл бұрын
ablindgibsongirl if I can I would love to mentor you. I think you can do it, but you would need to be able to identify single bobbins. You could definitely use a tracing wheel on the card to identify each pattern and if you have patterns that have already been pricked then maybe we could work through a pattern
@ablindgibsongirl4 жыл бұрын
The Lace Owl That sounds lovely. I think your teaching style is perfect. I have been looking at beginner bobbin lace hits, is there a particular brand you recommend?
@thelaceowl41784 жыл бұрын
ablindgibsongirl these are just my thoughts but I think to begin with you need bobbins with different beads on, you would need 10. For pins to begin with I would suggest glass head pins, your tatting thread would be great, and you would need a cookie pillow. I would suggest you buy your bobbins that feel different to you, either the spangles or the bobbins themselves. You will have to identify each bobbin by its feel, your first pattern is just an elongated upside down U so you would need some card, back of a Christmas card, something about that weight
@ablindgibsongirl4 жыл бұрын
The Lace Owl That all sounds doable. Is there a difference between types of bobbins? I have two balls of size twenty tatting thread, I also have five by seven index cards. I am thinking an eighteen inch pillow is a good size without being too small. Almost there.
