I bought this on cassette in 1986 at East Towne Mall in Knoxville TN. Salesgirl had a blue streak in her hair. Camelot Music, I think. Mall has since been bulldozed. Thanks Karl, RIP.

I am surprised the Knack didn’t make it bigger than they did! I am always telling Alexa to play the Knack and I gotta say they really did write some good tunes

They were huge in 1979. That was kind of the way singles, power pop bands went during that generation….one amazing record (or records), one year and then boom….the Raspberries, Badfinger (both a little earlier) the Knack, Men at Work. Dire Straits and the Police escaped that my mixing it up (assume too that Mark and Sting’s talent level was virtuoso didn’t hurt). This was in my mind, the very best song from a very tight band. Yes, it does sound a bit like the Stone’s “Beast of Burden”, but I like it a lot more.

Thanks to Sam Hunt for sampling this masterpiece. If it wasn't for Sam Hunt sampling this masterpiece, I wouldn't even have known it existed. I love old country music. I'm only almost 21.

Love this version along with the other Manor recordings. Rick Rubin turned them into a completely different sounding band. Not bad but i just like the pre Electric Cult better. The Love album is a true masterpiece! CFFC!! 🤘😎

Devastation at last finally we meet After all of these years out here on the street I had a feeling you would make yourself known You came along just to claim your place on the throne And I have been overthrown Overthrown And I thought if I towed the right lines But these mockingbirds won't let me shine Devastation my door was left open wide You brought me into your heart then you swallowed my pride I had a feeling you were hiding your thoughts I made a note to myself I nearly forgot Now I am overwrought I'm overwrought And I thought if I towed the right lines But these mockingbirds won't let me shine And I thought if I towed the right lines But these mockingbirds won't let me shine One day this ground will break And open up for me I hope it will I hope it will Salutations at last down on my knees I heard the bugle this morn blast reveille Woke from a dream where I was in a terrible realm All my sails were ablaze I was chained to the helm And now I am overwhelmed I'm overwhelmed And I thought if I towed the right lines But these mockingbirds won't let me shine And I thought if I towed the right lines But these mockingbirds won't let me shine And I thought if I towed the right lines (devastation at last) But these mockingbirds won't let me shine And I thought if I towed the right lines (devastation at last) But these mockingbirds won't let me shine And I thought if I towed the right lines (devastation at last) But these mockingbirds won't let me shine And I thought if I towed the right lines (devastation at last) But these mockingbirds won't let me shine

This band in the 1980's stormed Rock City, Nottingham, every time they played. I would say, one of the most anticipated bands to come. Next best was The Damned. Every, every time. Bouncing dance floor. Nothing else since came close, other than in Canada with The Hip.

Agree completely. Rubin is the definition of over rated. Amazed he gets so many props in the business being he's really done nothing to earn it. Literally nothing.

My P.E. teacher in the 7th grade introduced me to Bob Welch. Didn’t know who he was thought it was a baseball pitcher who sang. He kept raving about one of the best musician and guitarist in the world. I eventually hear his stuff. It didn’t wow me. Till I heard this song. Love that church organ and the soldier drum shot on the chorus. R.I.P. both Bobs.

"Discovered" Pete in 1994 as a free demo cassette at a local record store. Paid to see Tom Petty in 1995 because Pete was opening. Bought 3 of my friends tickets with my Pell grant money 🤣 Currently an RN with many years experience....still the single best expenditure of my college money🤣🤣🤣

I wonder if in the 1950s country singers were actually more free and honest in expressing their feelings? Webb sounds very straightforward here, I think it's great 👍 👌!

Dear Diane today was worse Call a reverend and a hearse Wrap the rope around my neck Cause someone stacked the deck And now the man at station says "Your ticket ain't good anymore" Said the man at the station "son your ticket ain't good anymore" Foursquare church and gin at lunch Keeps my head in the clouds The teacher slapped my wrist today She said I talk too loud Well fuck that And now the man at station says "Your ticket ain't good anymore" Said the man at the station "son your ticket ain't good anymore" Well dear Diane today was even worse I want you to call a reverend and a hearse And wrap that rope right around my neck Cause someone stacked the deck And now the man at station says "Your ticket ain't good anymore" Said the man at the station "son your ticket ain't good anymore" Said the man at the station "son your ticket ain't good anymore
