The relative minor of a major scale is the scale's sixth note. For example, in the D major scale (D, E, F♯, G, A, B, and C♯), the sixth note is B, so the relative minor is B minor. You can also find the relative minor by counting down three semitones (or half steps) from the major scale's note. For example, in the C major scale, you would count down three semitones from C to get A, so the relative minor is A minor.

This was really helpful. Even though I don't play piano. I have played trumpet, tuba and guitar and bass. I always wanted to know a few things about the piano though. Very thorough explanation!

Is Half close also called as plagal cadence? And half cadence also referred as imperfect cadence?

I like the improvised piece very much. Can you score it? The red highlight is actually really hard to follow - perhaps dots would be easier

I've just come across your video after searching about flamenco guitar. Never heard of this mode before, but have certainly heard it in music. Would it be used in the Concerto de Orange Juice (Brassed Off)? It certainly sounds similar.

Another pattern I noticed is that the next note in the cycle of fifths is always two semitones after the note before the previous one. For example, if we ask what note comes after G in the cycle, we can ask which note is two semitones after the note that came before G in the cycle of fifths. Since C came before G in the cycle, if we simply add two semitones to it we find that D is the note which follows G in the cycle.

I immediately think of Hans ZImmer's score for "Man of Steel" when hearing your examples. The score is basically a set of perfect and major intervals. :) kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5_KfKt8aKiknpY
