I first heard this in 2001, when my gf at the time put on the CD as we were getting ready to go to bed. I remember thinking it was the most relaxing music I'd ever heard, and made me feel at peace somehow. It just made the world feel right, and I've loved this song ever since (22 years later and counting).

This song, and the whole Pure and Simple album, has really grown on me, with recent listens. I kind of ignored it for years, but Joan really brought it strong on this album, in true Joan fashion. The Joanness is strong, with this one 😄😉💥💥🖤

With all her male counterparts scrambling to compete with grunge, and altering their sound to ride the trend; it's like she just said, " screw it", went ahead and put out this incredible old school hard rock album, full of anthems and emotion, passion etc; and did it better than anyone perhaps.

Yesterday, at Rancho Nicasio in W. Marin Co, just north of S Francisco, we celebrated Mari's EIGHTIETH birthday! She did a 2-hour set (2 halves) was super-strong-voiced, told great stories (like about Hoagie Carmichael coming in an singing on one of her eatly songs) Maria has now recorded FORTH-SEVEN (48?) albums -- and 3 years ago, her newest album WON A GRAMMY. Her lovely daughter joined her onstage, as well as some other wonderful performers like Ramblin' Jack Elliott. It should really be acknowledged just what a HUGE contribution this Italian girl from Brooklyn has mad to finding, recording and preserving the "Bluesiana" tradition in America. She is called "the Queen of Bluesiana" -- and oh, the crown sparkles -- but not nearly as brightly as Maria herself HAPPY 80th, MARIA. Can't wait to see you perform again (by the way, it's not rare -- she performs a lot all over the country!)

I didn't know all of this! I didn't know she was still recording and performing. She was an old favorite of mine, so I'm really happy to hear this and will surely go see her when she performs nearby!! Happy 80th to an amazing artist!!❤

I knew when this film came out that the soundtrack probably wouldn't be publicly available for purchase for quite a while. So I was able to get a copy but made some people really mad in the process. I hadn't realized it would be a problem : / But it's an AMAZING soundtrack!!!

I watch my generation die I watch the heads of nations lie I watch the homeless on the streets I stand here helpless just Looking at my feet I watch the children run away The bullets fly where they should play I watch a junkie fade away I ain't got an answer But I sure got things to say Hey, I gotta find a way 'Cause the road is dark Gotta light my way Gotta fight the fear In my heart Oh, I pray I live to see A brighter day, hey hey I watch the old folks sit alone They talk to ghosts they used to know Where are the wise men of the tribe Where are the midwives and the newborn's cry, yeah Now if I could I'd turn back time Way back before there was corporate crime We'd fight the wind to plant our seed When the earth was stronger than human greed Hey, hey, I gotta find a way 'Cause night is dark Gotta light my way Gotta fight the fear In my heart Oh I pray I live to see A brighter day, hey hey I'm not trying to tell ya What's right or wrong I'm not trying to be clever You gotta hope things get better Even when they never, hey hey hey Hey hey, I gotta find a way 'Cause road is dark Gotta light my way Gotta fight the fear In my heart Oh, I pray I live to see A brighter day, hey hey
