@@joeraderblackrockcentralrr I’ve put up update #3 with some new things added and done, if I could find some thin Masonite fascia I’d have already added it to complete the benchwork cover and begin using the NCE system as well as began all the wiring and installing plug it systems in to at least prep for all the things on the layout that will light up, complete the paved loading platform with plaster, began adding the mock up build for the food distribution industry that’s at the end of the layout, etc. I will add studio lighting and LED strip lighting eventually but one step at a time I’ll get there and hope once I add higher details like static grass and more foliage the layout I hope will look much much higher quality. Thank you for watching any of my content your views and attention mean a lot to me!

Just can’t decide will I model a culvert like ditch with some nasty stale water that you’d see built a century ago or would it be like a modern paved culvert with concrete down both sides of the ditch. I kinda have an idea of which I’ll choose but I’ll definitely look up how tos before I do it haha

@@sernajrlouis thank you much! Absolutely love filming this line. When i inevitably film its entire run, I’ll likely compile all my catches together of this line and make a higher detailed edit and narration to it, unless I’m able to catch its entire run in one day, it runs from McNeil-manor-Elgin-mcdade-Paige and ends in Giddings and then returns. It runs 10-15 mph the entire run so it’s usually 6-4:30ish so it would be an all day filming day, I’d add any other UP trains that intersect its lines if I caught them. Thank you for watching I greatly appreciate any views like comments or subs!

Whats wrong with the rails to trails? Take a ride across the katy trail and tell me why you dont like the trails...
@jwrailve3615
@jwrailve3615 11 күн бұрын
@@kennethreffitt2051 when this line has industries that just got straight up left behind, the line severed when it used to be literally connected to what is now the airport, I’m not cool with rails to trails coming in and taking away something that still has usage left in it. But it’s Austin, if it isn’t downtown or going towards round rock Georgetown any rails or potential metroraul service in that area is just empty hopes and dreams. The lumber industry in montopolis just a year or two before being left high and dry they had installed an additional spur siding on there property. The industrial park past them had access to like 9 different warehouses, they ripped that out a couple years back which just was super frustrating. I really like the bergstrom spur and its history is interesting, having at one point at Congress crossed over 290/71 and served a couple more industries and one being where that resell store is now.
@jwrailve3615
@jwrailve3615 11 күн бұрын
I petitioned for it to be repurposed and extended back to the airport the city of Austin itself put out a survey and I sent in several hoping they’d not have rails to trails come in and buy it, but they bought it out for 6 million 2-4 years ago at this point and apart from the industrial park the lines still the ways it’s been for nearly 20 years.

@@kennethreffitt2051 it’s literal homeless encampments everywhere even around lady bird it’s a nice area to walk along the lake but homeless are super thick, a lot of people that are pretty messed up and it’s best to always be around other people because there’s some areas where you have homeless who literally claim an area is there property, like on the bergstrom spur between Congress and industrial, I’ve tried to film through there but a homeless man known for attacking people has literally jumped out of nowhere and chased me away all tweaked out and he is considered dangerous. He think the abandoned tracks are his, I don’t really go anywhere in Austin anymore i try to drive around and not through. I lived there off and on a few years and I’m years removed from being there and don’t miss it. The south could really use rail transportation into downtown and the airport and the city doesn’t care if it’s not to where the officials live they decline all proposals, they were more concerned about building a station to a soccer stadium than actually rebuilding the line or building a new line to the airport. It’s all upper class sub divisions north where every person has multiple cars yet they get the commuter service. It’s a bit ridiculous

Dang you saw it back when it crossed over 290/71/Ben white. I’ve only ever seen a couple rail maps that showed that. I wanna say it was the 80’s or early 90’s when they cut it back. @@TheSteelRoad actually I took one to Alaska and filmed about a third of the 62 mile run on the white Yukon pass, with hundreds of pictures as well I just haven’t yet figured how I’d piece it all together and share on here because I’d like to narrate and splice existing footage from the dvd they sell on the train and give them full credits for there footage that way I could tell the whole story as best as I could but I’ve never really done that before I’ve only ever tried to share with others what I get lucky enough to catch. The trains inbetween Taylor/Elgin Texas I pass 4-5 times each week and based off the normal schedule runs I almost am always missing them each day by less than 30 minutes whether before or after I drive through. I’ve also been having vehicle problems so chasing the austin western local has been far from front on the agenda I’m just glad I’ve had anything to share at all recently there’s been tons of mid train grade crossing catches thatve been wasted especially one where had I been there 5 minutes before it was a cpkc mixed freight slowly crawling through Bloomington tx. Yard and UP coming eastbound with a auto rack cruising through while it was raining pretty hard but my phone which I film with really does have a nice camera on it. Thanks! I had drove down here the week before and wondered how frequent the plant was worked so getting caught on the way out was nice especially when a cascade green is on the Texas coast far from where they came from. I literally just need to screw in the west and east staging sections on the bottom level and the entire bottom decks trackwork is completed, the second deck has the door section and a five foot section that need to be completed and that deck will be completed, the third deck hasn’t been started but I’ll build the benchwork in a different way and have it all together and add it section by section, and that will be the most scenic branch lines of my layout, going through and over a barge canal, the gator infested bayous, over a river, and into the flatlands before ending at the bay shoreline with a short wharf out on it. I’ll definitely do an update when I put up the two staging sections that can be anyday now, thanks for the like sub and comment I subbed back I like your shorts good catches as well!

When I started working in the area at the end of 2000, the Bergstrom Branch had already been cut back to Burleson Road. Remnants of the spurs to the LCRA Dalchau Service Center are still in the pavement in the transformer yard there, and the huge building formerly occupied by Capitol Paper may still have its spur. Measuring from where the switch for the Bergstrom Branch used to come off the Austin Subdivision (behind 5010 Emerald Forest Circle), the line ran 4.16 miles to the end at Burleson Road, 6.38 miles total to the end of the line on the west side of US 183 until 1999.
