I enjoyed watching, of course, to see the final product, and it was well worth the wait. A beautiful masterpiece custom crafted that can sell for no less than a mass-produced high-end Les Paul. Because it is custom-made, the price would exceed the items pumped out from an assemblyline of any name brand manufacturer.

Another potential customer here if it sounds even reasonably authentic, I’d mount it to my old Levin.

Glad you didn't gaudy it up with plastic binding and abalone....that wood is just too beautiful for that plastic mess . Let the wood do the talking 😊 2 things I personally would have done differently: I would have done most of the scroll carving before I glued it ... And from my experiences. The Piezo pickups usually sound better when they favor the bass side on a mandolin. It makes them less bitty . However, I've never installed one on an F4 style oval holes before (or A style for that matter), and I know they are mellower than 5s are... I might have painted or inlayed something around the Oval Hole.. I know it's a pain because it's oval, but I think it needs something to break up the solidness there ... nothing gaudy... just something small.. Nice job .. do you have post somewhere we can hear it ?

Cool build. Three questions, why did you opt for the layout that you did when usually the pickup switch is located below the neck pickup on most Jazzmaster style pickguards? Also did you shim the neck for the angle difference with the TOM bridge? Why did you chose those pickups for this Offset?
@strackwoodworking4 ай бұрын
This was custom made so the customer chose the pickups and switch location. His other guitar is an SG and he is used to that switch location. I typically route the neck pocket with the angle built in for a TOM bridge but a full pocket shim would work as well.

@@markmelville6670 - It has a truss rod. I just forgot to film that process. You’d be surprised how strong old growth quartersawn Doug fir is.

I wondered how much difference the old growth Doug fir would make. I just dis assembled an old mahogany table for guitar back and sides. LOL

Good video of the building process. I worked in Belgrade at the Flatiron shop for several years before Gibson kicked us all out. Disappointed there wasn't some old fiddle tunes played on mando for background music. Thanks anyway, Bob

I actually really like the raw chiseled look when you're making the arch on top. It reminds me of a hammered cymbal and it'd be cool to see a guitar with bronze finish and chiseled top.

How pliable is that epoxy? Is it really rigid or does it flex a bit like other pickguards?
@strackwoodworking4 ай бұрын
I’d say it’s a little more brittle than a typical pickguard but does have some flex. I try to be a bit more careful when drilling holes and tightening screws.
