Unfortunately nobody wants to host nuclear waste for the next 10,000 years. So sorry Greg, nuclear won't work. You under-rate the benefit of solar and wind.

How behave thunderstorms cells in the tropics in a weakly sheared environment and still produce long-lived TS and abundant rain?. Thanks

In an Australian coal miner who was agnostic on climate change ( but leaned towards its being an issue) In 2006 I studied to qualify as a ventilation engineer, which really opened my eyes. When I started in the industry(.1989) Co2 was 300ppm & as you correctly state is now 400ppm . The earth’s climate doesn’t care about politicians or their persuasion but politicians of all persuasion need to start understanding the climate before it way too late.

Hey Greg, I remember that night vivdly like you have and that night was scary looking on radar when you went on the air at WRAL the next day and explaining the track of that nocturnal F4 tornado from 36 years ago. I was watching the uploaded video of the newscast that Charlie Gaddy reported LIVE on location from that night earlier today and I had no idea that it was that warm that day and seeing how you broke it down the right way here was awesome. Awesome video, hope to hear from you soon and stay blessed, my friend.

I was 7 when the tornado hit my house. I lived in McColl. I remember it like it was yesterday. Me and my family got in my parents bedroom, and hid under the mattress. I have a few pictures from the tornado.

Greg! Miss you in eastern NC pal! I once commented to you that I95 has its own weather. But can you please loop last nights radar and tell me how such significant looking rain coming in from VA around 11pm just....disappeared? Remember, Think Snow! Thanks

This occurred on my 13th birthday. I lived in Maxton NC and vividly remember the storm and the destruction. My Dad was the area manager for CP&L. We cut the trees out from our driveway and up the street to US 74. He then took the saw and cut his way to his office. I didn't see him again for two weeks as they basically had to rebuild the power grid. If you know where to look, there are still scars on the land from these storms.

Thank you for your video. I am somewhat confused because I don't know what is happening in 3 dimensions. Are we looking at the isobar lines from above against a map? In other words, we are seeing the lines in 2 dimensions and the troughs are towards the south and the ridges are towards the north. Is each isobar line 500mB? Does a trough represent a low air pressure and the ridge represent a high pressure area? Thanks again.

I will always feel that this event was worse than the outbreak in 2011 just, because of the multiple F-4’s. Great case study!

1984 was worse in every aspect .

I lived through both of these outbreaks . 1984 was a lot stronger and more deadly .I had friends who lost. family members that night in 84 . The Red Springs and Greenville tornadoes were actually approaching F5 at their worst . I went to Beaver Dam and the whole area had been flattened by the two mile wide tornado . A farmer in snow Hill had his combine blown away and he never found it . The tornadoes removed the asphalt from highways in some areas and blew grown cattle into the tree tops . A 100 ton boxcar was tossed on it's side near Maxton. That tornado reached 2.5 miles wide. I will never forget the blackest skies I've ever witnessed that terrible night . The roar was heard about twelve miles east of the cedar Creek and beaver Dam tornadoes path . The tornadoes flattened 25, ooo acres of timber across the Carolinas and destroyed 1750 homes .

@@jeffbryan4019 This event has always interested me since I first heard about it. I’m sorry for the pain y’all suffered. I’ve heard about that combine story before and it’s mind blowing he never found it. This was the closest NC has ever been to getting an F5 tornado rating. I’ve heard from other witnesses the amount of lighting with that storm was off the charts. Let’s hope another event like that never happens again, because it would be much worse now considering the population growth. Thanks for sharing your story!

Yes the lightning was absolutely luminous and more rapid flashes than I've ever witnessed . Jonathan Finch called me from Dodge City Kansas about further information on his special case study of 1984 . He informed me that the Beaver Dam tornado near me was actually rated incorrectly by Ted Fujita . He said it definitely was an F4 in the area of Troy Fisher road . I told him that I always knew it was stronger than F3 . He said no doubt about it . That would indicate that we had suffered 8 F4 tornadoes instead of 7 . He also stated that that during his reanalysis if the event that he couldn't locate even one small break or let up in the major tornado damage path from White Oak through Greenville NC . The two that approached F5 were the Red Springs tornado and the Greenville NC tornado . We did have one other in our past that was a borderline F5 . That was the Rockingham NC tornado that occured with the Enigma outbreak on February 19 1884 . The four widest tornadoes in NC history all occured on March 28 1984 .
