Great video. Speaking from experience, I avoided single strokes in my playing because it aired out how inconsistent my subdivisions were. I thought that I was 'past' that stage of drumming. The anxiety of wanting to be perceived as a fancy professional is a hard habit to break. I've had more progress in less time by harkening down on my basics, and I've had more fun developing a drumming flow that way too. It's easier to daisy-chain basic melodies than complex phrases that don't feel natural in the music.
