You did more harm than good. This is a fail all the way. You don't feed kitten milk ever, and you don't release an orphaned squirrel once hand raised back into the wild without proper planning. Statistics are they don't live to see their first birthday. You should have contacted a squirrel rescue because you did so many things wrong. First, you needed a heating pad, pedialyte first 24hr baby has to be warm. It is better to use puppy milk never kitten milk. Always keep baby warm with heating pad. The reason she kept returning is because you imprinted on her, you are her food source, and she is too friendly to be released. Next time take the time to do better research to give them a chance. Less handling and need to wear gloves if you was planning on releasing back to the wild. You set these poor babies up for failure and their own death as with Dottie she probably aspirated she wasn't thriving cuz you never kept her warm. It's sad people are praising you guys for saving them but in reality you didn't save them

I'm glad you successfully raised Peaches; I'm just not sure how well equipped she was to live in the wild; although, you wrote she was leery of of other humans. My maternal grandfather made friends with a female squirrel & would crack open black walnuts for her when she would come visit him. However, she had been raised "wild". Interestingly, she never brought her babies to visit. Whatever the case, Lady, as my grandfather called her, & he had a very special relationship that was beautiful to watch. We lived in Massachusetts & my grandparents lived in southern Indiana; so, we weren't able to come visit all that often. All I know & remember is they had a very special relationship.

She's beautiful. I lost my baby boy, Will, a couple months ago. He was 7 yrs old and he was my life. We couldn't release him because he was injured when he fell from his nest. He was just a newborn. So I took care of him. I miss him so much. Watching Peaches reminded me of all the things Willie used to do. His death was sudden and it aches my heart. We have a family of squirrels that still get nuts from us. And some little guys from around. My boyfriend is a squirrel magnet lol. He really is though.

I'm so sorry to hear about Willie. 7 years sounds amazing. We do the same as you. We feed the squirrels. I'm secretly hoping we get another chance to raise a squirrel again.

@@mattmertz me too. I miss when he was a baby. I used to wrap him in a blanket, also gave him a pet store baby bottle. But as soon as he could get away he would be on my shoulder or on me some way. I would do things around the house and he would hang on me from his feet lol. I miss him. 😔💔
