The commentary is just one view point of Scofield and you don't rely all your study and teaching to what he said. You yourself have to read and study the Bible yourself and ask God what He wants to reveal to you through your study. If you study the word of God everyday you will see that 1 verse in the Bible can teach you so many things. Everyday will be a different lesson from God. In my 39 years of being a Born Again Christian I have always relied on God to show me and teach me what He want to reveal to me.

I would take that to mean that God is telling us not to believe everything that a preacher tells us but that we should study it and talk to Him (God) and He will guide us, but to hold such a hard feeling on preachers that do the best that they are given from God, is the best that we can do because we are infallible and imperfect. The Holy Spirit is the person that explains the Bible to the reader. A teacher like J Mac is a set apart teacher and He is accurate in his understanding and teaching. J Mac has no authority he stands on The Authority. Hearing you say the Bible is not inerrant is incorrect. Your testimony is one of a non regenerate. The Bible is foolishness to the unbeliever but it is salvation to the believer. There is no intelligence that can grasp God s word. Scofield’s annotated Bible promotes dispensationalism which eventually led to hyphenated Christianity called Christian Zionism. MacArthur’s annotated Bible promotes cessationism. I know because I have both of these Bibles for reference. I once heard a Russian pastor say that all it takes is one drop of poison in a glass of pure water to kill you. You need discernment and the Holy Spirit to lead and guide you into all truth.

I much prefer Coppleston's history of Philosophy. I can't stand Bertrand Russel dogging so many of the philosophers who do not align with his modern views. Coppleston was a Catholic Priest, but he at least attempted to remain objective in his history.

Use discernment, prayer, and many sources, and then pray some more for understanding. I was saved in a Pentecostal Assembly of God, and many people read the Scofield Bible and took it as the Gospel. This is dangerous and not good. I have found that it is compartmentalized and coming from a certain view, as you say, and it is true. Reader, be aware.
