0:39 Is it Jon Brion that shouts, "Pressure?" He teases the band with a riff of "Under Pressure" by Queen and David Bowie. Anyway, I'll glad they returned to this glorious song to play it in full.

Jon Brion doing beautiful work on the keyboard. The same line-up supported Neil Young at five shows just prior to taping this session. I'm going to hunt down those recordings!

Treated you like a rusty blade, a throwaway from an open grave Cut you loose from a chain gang who let you go And on the day you said it's true, some love holds, some gets used Tried to tell you I never knew it could be so sweet Who could ever be so cruel? Blame the devil for the things you do? It's such a selfish way to lose, the way you lose these wasted blues, these wasted blues Tell me that it's nobody's fault, nobody's fault but my own Tell me that it's nobody's fault, nobody's fault but my own Tell me that it's nobody's fault, nobody's fault but my own Tell me that it's nobody's fault, nobody's fault but my own When the moon is a counterfeit, better find the one that fits Better find the one that lights the way for you When the road is full of nails, garbage pails and darkened jails And the tongues are full of heartless tales that drain on you Who would ever notice you? You fade into a shaded room It's such a selfish way to lose, the way you lose these wasted blues, these wasted blues Tell me that it's nobody's fault, nobody's fault but my own Tell me that it's nobody's fault, nobody's fault but my own Tell me that it's nobody's fault, nobody's fault but my own Tell me that it's nobody's fault, nobody's fault but my own Tell me that it's nobody's fault, nobody's fault but my own Tell me that it's nobody's fault, nobody's fault but my own

I was there at this show. Me and my old friend Young Tom. Pantages Theater, Hollywood USA. Beck opening for Johnny Cash. Beck blew alot of minds that night. I remember him playing a Skip James song that was amazing.

For some reason Beck almost never does Farewell Ride live. Like he literally hasn't done Farewell Ride live in almost 15 years, and even before then he barely did it. Didn't even do it live on the Guero tours apparently. So yeah, this recording is probably one of the only live recordings of Farewell Ride, and it's not even the actual song, but more like a prototype/demo version from 2001.
@matchesburn3 жыл бұрын
"For some reason Beck almost never does Farewell Ride live" Because around the same time Beck was recording the finalized "Farewell Ride" version... Elliott Smith, his longtime friend, died (Beck even later gave a tribute to him after his death). Given the lyrics, tone and timing... I can see why it might be a hitting a little to close to home to play that song.
