Wait wtf this shits quality and on the most underrated supergiant game.

I recently bought the game because I finally could afford it and no matter how many reviews I watched, nothing prepared me for the beautiful story of Pyre. I was crying during multiple parts of the story because I became way too invested in the characters. I was just pleasantly surprised every time a vocal track played and I just adore this game a lot.

Solid review. I've had conflicting feelings about Pyre, I think it's by far more interesting and artistically respectable compared to Hades, I love how much unique lore there is solely inside this game, no comic or movie. The dialogue isn't captivating enough for me and waiting for your favourite character to decide to come and talk, made me sort of gloss over most scenes. Watching someone that isn't as good in video games play this was honestly the most fun I've had, I'm not a sports guy, but cheering him on was great.

Before Hades came out Pyre was the best game out of Supergiant and it never gets enough love. Probably because it's one of those games simply watching someone play it will never give you the full picture as playing it yourself because of the internal struggle over your decision making. Ever since it came out I've told people you have have to experience it to truly understand why it is so good. Also Darren Korb did some of his best work on this game. I love all his music but Pyre has some of the most diverse range.

I love the thumbnail so much because a full english translation of the lyrics of Great Days can be loosely interpreted as related to some of the themes of Pyre's plot. What an underrated game, whenever people talk about what Supergiant's "Worst" game is like trying to find imperfections in an anthology of absolute consistent quality, I almost always hear Pyre and I'm always thrown a bit for a loop. I wonder if it's just because people didn't have the attention span for the visual novel aspects.
@CrispiestKАй бұрын
With most people I talked to about Pyre it was more the sports gameplay that turned people off from liking it. Pyre is an experimental idea and at the end of the day you like it or you don’t. Thanks for the thoughts.
@WMan37Ай бұрын
But the sports gameplay was one of the coolest parts, then again action sports have always been my favorite genre, this is why I don't like racing games, but I love Burnout 3: Takedown. I don't love basketball games, but I love NBA Street. I would have loved Yoko Taro's "Gun Soccer" if that ever made it past the game design drafting phase.

Okay damn. I've never heard of this game and these types of games aren't really something I've really wanted to try but the premise in of itself is bonkers. A fantasy sports visual novel sort of action?? This video really made me want to play this. Also, keep going. The video's great and easily digestable. Watched it all the way through with interest

Very well done review! The quality belies your audience, and hope you find more in the future. I very much liked Pyre for the same reasons as you, particularly when all the mainstream games started to feel the same. An Oregon Trail Fantasy Sport Novel? Sign me up. Although not of the same genre, I'd recommend Laika: Aged Through Blood if you want another interesting story. Just be warned that it can be brutally difficult at times.

Just like that, you're among my favorite reviewers. About the leather manhandler armor: Its 'uppercut' makes enemies angry. Go figure, right? Heheh! It combos great with its super strong charged punch, and that's now one of my favorite playstyles. Maybe you know that already, but I only realized when I replayed the game recently, so I felt the need to say it.

I personally don't think that the promise both made was for Elster to kill Ariane. In the promise ending, Ariane never mentions any promise. It flashes as text before dialogue begins but is never said. It's an instruction to you as the player to guide Elster towards the secret ending. After all you must play through the game once to get the secret ending and even then, you must go through multiple cycles to find the location of the keys unless you're using a guide. On your next runs you have already become whole you are now THE Elster-512 and work towards keeping your actual promise, and you don’t have to fight Falke or confront Adler in the artifact ending. Here you finally keep your promise you made with Ariane, to dance again. Additionally, I find it very unlikely for Ariane to be listening to the nations advise of asking the Elster unit to end her suffering. She could have done so many times. We know Elster would have been capable to do so if Ariane wished but she didn’t. Ariane listening to the nation contradicts her entire reason for being on the Penrose in the first place. It’s just called the Promise ending because you're being reminded to keep it, unlike the other endings where you either don't confront Ariane or she simply doesn't remember. If the Promise was for Elster to put Ariane out of her misery she would have certainly done so in memory regardless of whether Ariane can remember or not. Can’t really dance with a person who doesn't remember you. This concludes my brainrotfront stricken ramble about this parasite of a game that has infested my mind. Great video btw
@CrispiestK4 ай бұрын
That does make sense. I made an assumption that the promise was an implied mercy killing that was mentioned offscreen at some point. I never really thought of it the way you mentioned, and honestly I didn’t get the artifact ending before and you helped answer some questions I had. Thanks for the input!
@nemo95094 ай бұрын
@CrispiestK What I said is like everything, just a theory, but for me, it's the canon. Also, regarding the artifact ending in case you're still confused, in my interpretation we see a red eye because during her time on Rotfront Ariane and basically everyone else called the red spot on Jupiter (rotfronts planet) the red eye, a symbol for the states surveillance and oppression. Everything Ariane creates through her godlike bioresonace is somehow connected to her memories which is why she herself has become this red eye that watches Elster through the cameras on her every move and can very rarely be seen in the TV screens. She perceives this eye as a all knowing thing, so when she is eventually revealed as the goddess she is, she has taken on the form of what she believes to be omnipotent. But again, these are just my theories not of this is really true and just a manifestation of my bioresonace induced hallucinations
