Adrian just wanted to say thanks for all of the content you provide here on KZbin. As a recently new owner of an A+ 1275 Mini, your channel has been a real treasure trove of valuable information. I wanted to change my coil soon after getting the car, so contacted MiniSport to ask which one would be suitable for my car. They recommended a 3 Ohm 'Sports Coil' which I duly fitted, but since watching your videos religiously I've come to realise that I would be better off with a 0.8 Ohm Viper due to having a 65DM4 dizzy (and gapping my new BP6ES plugs to 35-thou!) The more I watch, the more I learn, and the more my Mini improves. Thank you! I'd love to book you one day in the future to work out some more tweaks to truly make my engine sing, so I'll keep an eye out for Midlands appointment availability...

I always understood a ballast resistor was to help cold start and a sports coil was the way to go, but a temperature sensitive ballast resistor is a performance enhancement, as the rpm increases, relatively the coil output does too! Great stuff
@bernardwarr418718 сағат бұрын
Just to add to your excellent information. MSD in the US do a coil with primary resistance of .7 OMS and a ballast resistor of .8 OMS as a high performance kit, for points cars. What’s your thoughts on that?

Yes that’s ideal for engines with more cylinders.

Is there a way to check the dwell on an electronic dizzy without that meter? I’m running an electronic ignition with a 3ohm accuspark coil. But my low end power is rubbish. I quite often have the blip the throttle several times to bring the revs up before I pull away.
@ACDodd7 күн бұрын
Poor low end power is usually associated with too much cam timing and too high a rocker ratio for your needs. What can and rocker combination are you using?
@Hagrid1237 күн бұрын
thanks! The cam and rocker are original. It’s always had poor low end power. I’m currently trying to get it going again after a rebuild. It’s firing at 10°BTDC (with no vac advance) and I’ve reset the carb by winding it until the jet is level with the bridge and then winding it out two whole turns (12 flats) and I’m struggling to keep it running.

@@Hagrid123your engine simply needs a thourough tune as shown in these 4 videos.

@erdemir564115 күн бұрын
You didn't say why you need a ballast resistor for that resistance

It will overheat the points if you run a 1.5ohm coil with no ballast.
@erdemir564115 күн бұрын
Why don't you say what the resistance should be
@ACDodd15 күн бұрын
In what respect? There are 3 applications, 3 types are needed for these applications. If you want to know what’s best, then that’s easy, the 0.8 ohm coil wins evertime. However if you have an original 1960’s vehicle this may it be the right one for you.
@shanedeacon654815 күн бұрын
Did you work down through the grits in order, or was each cylinder lapped in with the single listed grit? Also do you have any data on how a "broken in" engine seals? Would the freshly machined surfaces eventually mate together through run time to approach the leak down from a lapped in valve?
@ACDodd15 күн бұрын
Work down the grits, cylinder seal is never as good as valve seal.

I have an NGK distributor cap with the HT leads terminated with NGK resistor plug covers (LB05EZ) that contain a 5K ohm ceramic resistor. Are these plug covers robbing the ignition system of power as the R plugs do?
@ACDodd16 күн бұрын
If that’s the only resistance in the system Then you are all good, but if you have resistor plugs and resistive leads as well then that’s too much

hi AC, great video as usual. quick question though as its not mentioned, how are you/or are you making compensations for the AFR when the engine is under load ? under load on a dyno (or on the road of course) as im sure you know, the cylinder is going to produce much greater heat interested to know how you are calculating this and working it into the lambda you are seeing. thanks! p.s what are you using to read the lambda? cheers

This is my job this weekend! Thank you!!! I’m also having issues when I go to accelerate (particularly when cold) the revs drop right down and I have to blip the throttle to bring it up.
